I've been trying to get hold of a new GTR but have been told that there are only 2 left in Kawaski UK and that's it!!! (Apparently the Police have had them all)
THEN, I was told that there may be a new GTR announced at the show next week, anyone heard anything?
if a new GTR was to be launched next week there would have been planty of stuff on the net all summer ( like the forth coming H2 engine)
maybe a colour change but cant imagine much more than that!
I hear canary yellow..

The GTR and the versys have not been announced yet. Rumors about the versys are all over the internet. The GTR has no information yet.
The GTR is showing its age now and in my opinion is desperately in need of a substantial update

I agree. I'm sure we'll be back in the sports-tourer market at some point and a GTR would be Lyn's first choice. We really enjoyed the two we had but it would have to be updated and a revision made to the stupid service intervals before I'd consider another one.
Kevin
Whats wrong with 8000 mile service intervals? Every 3rd ya do the valves & sparkplugs.
To maintain the warranty the service intervals are 3750 miles, not 8000.
Kevin
Really? The oil change interval is 7500 miles over here. Spark plugs are the same but no one in their right mind does that unless they are masochists. Valve clearances are 18000 miles. My manual (08) doesn't show anything for 3750. They have an initial check at 600 miles but then everything goes to 7500 mile increments. Is it different in the UK?
According to the manual its 7500 miles after the initial 600 mile service. Attached the relevant part from the 2010 manual below

for a tourer that's designed to travel great distance's it's a joke,i've recently had mine serviced,been up north a couple of time's & it's due another.
I checked the pre 2010 manual and its 7500 there as well.
If there is a new version, I hope it comes in Candy Red with cruise control.

Your manual looks the same as mine, hence the ? on the 3750 number..
I think it's 3750 on my 12 plate.

Are you able to scan your service book, the one that has the service stamps? Unless something changed after we bought our 2010 bike the service interval in there isn't 7500 miles. The short service interval was one of the primary reasons we sold it and kept the FJR.

Thats the periodic
replacement parts sheet, but it differs from the periodic
maintenance sheet which does show a "service" every 3750 miles. Its essentially a walkaround and kick the tyres. Bournemouth Kawasaki told me that they are happy for me to walk around my own bike for the 4000 "service" with no jeopardy to the warranty.
Interestingly, they also say that the minimum to get a stamp in the service book is a filter and oil change. Do the rest yourself!

Kevin
I checked the service record, and you're right, the dealer has marked a service at every 4000 miles, which is in line with what Burchy says:

So the 3750/4000 service is only a maintainance service i.e. according to the manual its more of an inspection service. What the manual says is inspect brakes, emissions, and clutch. Every other 4000 miles the other items listed need to be serviced.

Hmmm, if I'd had a co-operative dealer like that wed have probably kept it. As it was I figured if it had to go to the dealer anyway they might as well change the oil.

At least the S10 is a bit more forgiving Kevin
I change the Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Diff Oil every 3k miles come what may, all the other stuff i check weekly anyways, i like to know whats good and not so good on my bike, oh and being a little anal i also rotate my bobbins every Saturday as well.
Alan
I do oil and filters every 4000 as well, just don't need Mr K to do it for me unless its to get a stamp and protect the warranty
You rotate your little anal bobbins every Saturday?
Sorry, just amusing myself in France whilst awaiting verdict on bike :mfr_lol:
The difference between 7500 and 8000 is minimal and the intermediate "services" are a licence to print money since no verifiable work is done.
I serviced mine by the book until the day the warranty expired and since then have serviced it myself.
She gets oil & filter every 8000, valves plugs and air filter were done at 25k but since then she's had oil and filter every 8000.
I check most stuff weekly anyway as I do 600 miles a week.
Currently at 62000 and running well apart from a sticking clutch master/slave cylinder.
Have had to replace the clutch plates due to a disintegrated friction plate (bad manufacture) and replace the front bevel box bearing which was worn.
Sometime soon, once I get my old 1000 back on the road she will be going to a local bike shop for a valve/plugs service and a weeping fork seal.
This topic went from New GTR for 2015? to Service Intervals.
At the last service I asked my dealer if there was going to be a new GTR for 2015. To give him an incentive, I told him I was going to get a BMW K1300S unless there was a some hint of a new GTR. He called the UK sales manager there and then, but the sales manager didn't know or wasn't saying anything.
There, from service back to new GTR.

I think that if there was going to be a new for 015 GTR, you would have heard about it by now. Plenty of rumours about the updated 1000 and 650 Versys, plus lots of hints to a new turbo-charged ZX10 style missile, but alas nothing on the GTR.
I think Geoff is correct ...no rumours about any GTR improvements, although it could still be a 'best kept secret'

It'd be interesting to see what the sales figures are for the GTR in the UK. Last time I spoke to a dealer, he stated that they weren't selling as well as expected. As its Kawasaki's flagship touring model that pretty much wipes the floor with the other brands (IMO), they badly need to update the spec

Hopefully next week we will all find out. Both the US and Europe sites are still showing the '14 version of the 14/1400. It's all about the H2. I'm old and remember when the H1 500 was introduced. A room mate had a new '69 H1 500. Scary quick, for sure....It lived on the rear wheel....

Its a nice bike, but I sure can't do the same mileage on these Adventure bikes that I can on the GTR and FJR for some reason, the riding position just doesn't suit me for a long haul, I like to be forward leaning, slightly or even leaning slightly forward ! :mfr_lol:

Ooo, this is so deja vu. This was just the sort of hungry expection on the ST1300 forums for each show, each year ... only to be disappointed by nothing, or worse, the abomination that was the CTX1300 as a slap in the face!
It seems the Japanese manufacturers are not upgrading their flagship 'tourers' (ST1300, FJR1300, 1400GTR, Suzuki don't even have one) in favour of agricultural vehicles (http://www.smiley-lol.com/smiley/deplacer/tracteur.gif) (not that I want bells and whistles as I said in another topic, but some refinement would be nice). So it's Triumph or BMW if you really must upgrade and must have 'extras'.
I will just add the extras to baby if they don't come out with an upgraded GTR..
I don't want any other make.

Yes, but both Triumph and BMW have both got shocking records regarding breakdowns, warranty work, and re-calls. The latest debacle with the all new RT1200 having a "Stop riding" re-call, that took months to resolve, smacks of to little time in development. There are also certain models of Triumphs ( the Explorer being one ) that have had catastrophic engine failures, and multiple other issues that would make me avoid the two brands like the plague. I dont need a big tourer these days, but if I did it would have to be Japanese, but unfortunately there are not too many about.
Big adventure bikes are all the rage now. GS, Versys 1000, new DL1000, Tenere, etc. Most less expensive and allow a rider more choices of roads to travel. All the electronic farkles on them, too. I've owned a DL1000 and a Tiger 1050, but prefer my C14, over them. Unsure about over there, but when on a ride yesterday, other than a couple of adv bikes and Wings, all the rest of the bikes I saw, (dozens) were all Harley touring models. They rule the road, especially in Texas.

As will we all...
Someone here promised to send some doughnuts to Ireland if I was right.
yup it was me who promised a box of doughnuts.
Ps , a colour change or a cruise control does not constitute a " new " model, we are talking styling and engine change here !
it will be worth the doughnuts to see a new GTR, still don't believe it will happen, just look at the whohar Kawasaki made out of the h2 launch
If it was going to be a major change (gen3), I think that we would have heard about it by now. :agree:
I work at a dealer that sells Kawi's, and we have heard or seen nothing about a new/different 15 model. We still have 13's on the floor, and the last thing dealers want is something that will stop the sales of current stock, already deeply discounted... tp

New seat
Revised K-ACT
Temp gauge on modified display
Thats all about i can see.

Lots of pics here http://www.motoservices.com/gallerie-de-photos-4936.htm
Looks like the fairing sides and the front mudguard are now satin black as are the bars. Panniers increased in size by a couple of litres, not sure how. Larger fairing box?
So is black the only colour now?
Will be interesting to see how different/useful the screen is, and if it can be retro fitted. The opening looks like it's hinged.
Edit: Just found a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Sd-UlkbQVA
Watching the video the panniers/glove box look the same to me, so not sure where some sites are getting they are bigger.
Changes look like:
Paint - more matt/satin black (including handle bars)
Seat
Screen
Thise who were 'desperate' for cruise control and more toys will be disappointed.
Me? I like shiney paint, don't get matt finishes.

So the all new revamped GTR is out.
I like the look of the matt black and the green stripe but I was hoping for something a little more impressive than that. New seat, well, that's always been available. It looks to have exactly the same rear pre load shock, so is that going to be prone to on-going seizures? Have the discs been upgraded to avoid warping?
The price is going to be interesting when released....currently a new GTR is available from anything between £11.5k to £13.5k depending on where you choose to buy. If the new price exceeds £13.5k then that could be Kawasaki's downfall.
I had hoped for cruise control as standard and even possibly an integrated sat nav :whistling: I always want more! :mfr_lol:
However I'm eagerly awaiting the release of a price as I still need to choose a bike......

Oh okay then, I thought it would be more but it does look VERY nice.
So, now to the question, do you buy a 2015 model, or buy some sticky tape of Fleabay?
I have the tape on order with my local mate who owns a graphics company, I reckon it's 6mm wide and when I get to his place soon he will put it on and I will see what it looks like.

Oh okay then, I thought it would be more but it does look VERY nice.
So, now to the question, do you buy a 2015 model, or buy some sticky tape of Fleabay?
a seat and a screen is not a new model, these are things that we all have done already, a new model is design changes, fairing changes, extra toys , different motor ect
you could have gone to your dealer and asked him to put the gel seat on, buy a new screen and some tape and hey presto you have a " new bike "
The heat guard plate on the exhaust pipe appears to have been removed as well
Not the GTR but here is Jay Lenos expose of the H2-R and the H2.

It's very simple, Kawasaki just have not sold enough GTRs to justify throwing millions more Yen at developing this model further. They more than likely haven't even covered their initial development costs yet. So maybe after the 015 minor update they will call time on the big fella.
Just a few questions for you....
Since it's release, how many other BIKES have VVT technology? Nothing to compare it against there..
How many bikes have switchable fuel maps for economy (not power) as standard?...... Nothing to compare against there....
How many bikes in the last 6/7 years have electronic adjustable screens in this class of bike?
How many bikes have Tyre pressure monitoring system? Ok, there are a few, but not many.
How many bikes have switchable linked braking technology?
There are lots of unique toys in this class of bike... and actually, no one saw this bike coming, if I remember correctly...
Much to my personal disappointment, I can't see this bike being updated in the next year... :-(
Neil
Love the green the Americans get, but I think the black is classier.
Just be grateful and proud that you own a fantastic tourer regardless of the fact that "Ride" magazine didn't bother including it in their latest touring bike test
just had a really good look at the video and media pictures, it seems as if Kawasaki are boasting some of the enhancements back from 2010, such as better ktrac and 30 mm higher screen.
The panniers are still 35ltr, I cant see any difference on the exhaust , the temp gauge we already have.
It really is a seat, a slot in the windscreen and a shiny bezel on the clocks , but the really good news is that we will eventually get candy lime green!
Underwhelmed isn't the word.
We still haven't had the US Candy Red, so i wouldn't hold count on us getting the Lime Green anytime soon.
You all keep getting your hopes up only to get them dashed against the rocks of reality. If the GTR was selling 100k units per year it would get refreshed every 5 years. As it is, we will be lucky if they replace it at all. Personally I would shoot whatever idiot originally signed up to use Bridgestones and have the ergonomics team sterilised, but otherwise it's still an awesome bike.

Kawi's real money went into the H2 and R models for this coming year. Everyone made of both, will be sold, probably "presold". The engineering and technology that went into the H2 series may some day trickle down other lines, but today, MAX HP and "track ready" is what is HOT, not a 700lb touring bike.
Look at Yamaha's R1-M, the new BMW S1000RR, the Duc Panagale 1299's, and the updated ZX10R. All offering improved "everything". That's where we are today. Folks are calling and coming in, asking about the above mentioned bikes, but had two "no takers" on the C14's I showed today. A shame too, as the 14/1400 is a much more practical and over all fun bike to ride, over the almost race only hot bikes currently desired.
Ten years ago, $70,000 custom choppers were The Thing. Can't give them away today, but FJR's RT's, ST1300's, Trophy SE's and Concours/1400, have stayed consistant for the real Sport Touring riders, which is a good thing. Lots of improvements for the 15 RT's. Hopefully Kawi will see that and move on up, some day soon, too. tp

Hi guys !!
Well, to start off with, I am NOT slating the GTR at all. I really enjoyed my bike when I owned it and that power cannot be replaced. I am however very disappointed to learn that they have not even changed the engine to the 1440cc mill that is in the new ZZR1400. I think Kawasaki have missed a trick and might lose some customers.
Having said that, I am VERY happy with my Triumph Sprint GT1050. Neil is correct, not many bikes have what the GTR has as standard. In fact, the Trumpet only has ABS ( no inverted forks etc etc ) but somehow it works !
This is the best bike I have ever owned and in my opinion, VERY underated.

Deon

nearly bought the same last year from a dealer in Stafford it was £175.00 if I recall the one I viewed had a small dent in the matt finished aluminium.
I settled for a V46 For £140.00 with no dents and all black except for the reflectors.

Looked at the "GTR" at the bike show yesterday, all looks cosmetic to me.
What is the vent in the screen supposed to do??
Looks good in gray though.

According to the Kawasaki site (http://www.kawasaki.co.uk/en/products/sport_tourer/2015/1400gtr/features?Uid=08EFWQoJXl5QUFpdDQwKXAoJClFQXFpRXVBdDQkKDQtYWFo):
QuoteWindscreen vent
A vent added to the electronically adjustable windscreen reduces load on the rider by letting external air enter the cockpit area. With the vent open, the negative-pressure effect in the cockpit is reduced. This means less chance of the rider being pulled forward at high speed.
Let's see, it's only taken them what.......7 years or so to figure that one out? You just want to grab them by their collars and smack the :censored: out of the engineers. I think that this bike is a hobby to KHI.
Harley just added a vent on this past year model Electra Glides. That batwing fairing has been around for decades. Took them a while too.
Ooo like the Goldwing? :)
The screen on the 2015 bike looked a lot thicker, I wonder how much it is to buy to retro fit it , I liked the look of the ktm 1050 at the show ,the supercharged kwak sounded good , but there did not seem to be as much there this year ,also the versy 1000 was looking good , having just got a ktm 990 superduke as a second bike am looking that way when I come to change the gtr in the next couple of years, :biker3:
If there is more mass to the screen, I hope that they beefed up the mechanism.
Quote from: virginiajim on November 27, 2014, 11:20:24 PM

My guess is that R & D will have done so Jim, the early model GTRs carried a sticker on the screen warning not adjust whilst on the move, which was possibly a safety related idea.
I reckon the GTR needs a major overhaul/revamp to bring it into line with its immediate competition and other contemporary machines, as it is now very long in the tooth
That warning came out on the gen 2s. I don't think it was on the gen 1s. We still see screen mechanisms breaking every once in awhile and I'm pretty sure it's the size of the screen and speed of the bike that has something to do with it not holding up.

You guys reckon you get less and pay more in the UK? - Try having a look at prices in Australia and NZ - Now we really get ripped off, and constantly hear the call of the dealers (of everything - not just bikes) - "There's a price for doing business here!" We get it, but the difference shouldn't be anywhere near as much as it it is - GTR1400/C14, call it what you will - A$24,999 plus ORC, with 2 years warranty (not 3) is just a rip-off compared to USA - and in the main, crap service to boot, especially the larger dealers that have their apprentice mechanics do the work. But at least we got the 'Candy Arabian Red' on the GTR in 2012. I call it burgundy, but that doesn't sound as nice. I like it, my daily ride, had it 2 years this coming February and 50,000km on the clock. Couldn't wait for Yamaha to put the prices out on the new FJR with fly-by-wire, so went with the GTR. Fitted MC Cruise and that really was a great investment for the longer rides. As was lowering the pillion pegs for SWMBO and a re-contoured seat.
Would be interested in more details of the MC Cruise you mentioned.....
I find that I miss that from my 'wing' on longer trips :) other than that the bike is ggggggreat.

Hey Pete.. I have recently got a quote for one. I have also got the installation manuals from McCruise to see which would be best to fit.. I would love to have the electronic one...........
Hi Deborah, 10th November 2014
Many thanks for your enquiry via our web site.
The kit is manufactured in Australia and we are the European distributors.
We also handle the independent testing and European Type Approval (e-mark) via the UK Government Vehicle Certification Authority.
Attached are two model-specific leaflets for your bike. One shows the kit with a vacuum actuator and the second with a new electric servo actuator.
Both versions perform well, but the latest electric servo version (though more expensive) is easier to install and has later software with improved performance.
The cruise control kit for your bike is £785 for the vacuum version and £845 for the electric servo version. Prices include import admin costs and import duty, VAT and insured delivery.
This is certainly not the cheapest accessory available for your bike, but it is the best you can buy - check out our customer comments at www.motorcyclecruise.co.uk/customers_comments.html
The kit is suitable for competent diy installation and comes complete with very comprehensive instructions, with plenty of photos of each stage.
All mounting brackets etc are designed specifically for each model of bike and the wiring loom plugs directly into the bike's existing loom.
Installation takes 3-5 hours to complete but for a first time fit you would probably wish to allow a full day so that you can double-check everything as you go along.
Alternatively it can be installed by any bike dealer or auto electrician.
There is full technical support if needed and the cruise control is extremely reliable in use.
If you would like to place an order please let me know if you would like the vacuum or electric servo version, and if you prefer the control switch mounted above or below the handlebar.
To make it easier for you I can then send you another email with a link to our online order page with all of the model details already included.
Then simply follow the instructions to place your order and pay securely with a debit or credit card or a Paypal account.
Paypal handle the card payment for us so we don't need to have your card details.
Each kit is assembled to order and delivery is 7-10 days.
Many cruise control buyers are repeat customers with a new kit for every new bike purchase and we now have some clients on their third kit.
Remember some of the benefits of fitting the electronic cruise control...
• It can help to save your license by keeping you within the speed limit.
• It can improve your fuel consumption over long distances (users report up to 15% improvement)
• It may help you to ride again after illness or injury. (and it simply saves the wrist, elbow and shoulder ache)
• Independently tested in the UK; Type Approved and "e" marked.
• And of course it's a real joy to use.
Best Regards,
Tony Phipps

Love the idea Deb's (wish it was standard) but at £850 it will be a no go :)
Yep, the price almost put me off too; Here it costs a shade over $1000 plus fitting (a half days' work for anybody that is technically not too challenged) - Somewhat cheaper than UK prices - check out web site www.mccruise.com - but after a 900km day I thought 'never again will I not do a ride like this without a proper cruise control'. The fitting instructions and how-to guides are great, with lots of step-by-step photo's. It used to be possible to download this content before ordering, I'm not sure if that is still the case. The above-bar control unit option is what I have, since the below-bar mount will get in the way of a fully loaded tank bag at anything close to full left lock. Next time I have the fairing covers off I'll post some pics of the install. Be warned, it does consume a bit of space under the inner covers - left side has this neat little spot just in front of the glove box, and the electronics go there. On the right side is the vacuum unit and cylinder (it's a bit of PVC pipe about 200mm long with valves in it). Now under the right inside cover with my FZ1 fuseblock fitted, I have no space left there either. All the wiring is made to suit your bike - no cutting/crimping of the bike's loom required. The control unit has the typical car stuff - Set, up, down, resume, etc. Any time you pull the clutch in or tap the brakes, it disengages, and each press of the up/down of a second or so (left thumb use) changes the speed by about 2km/hour. It holds true, up and down hill; I find the only maintenance is the occasional drop of light machine oil down the cables.

On MCCruise website it says to ask for the installation manuals before purchase to see which you would want to fit.. They sent me both fitting manuals.
I would also go for the above bar fitting.. Looks easier to operate from there.
It would probably be cheaper to buy from them and pay the import tax than to buy from the European dealer who imports them. Probably save about £50.
