Title: Hardknot pass
Post by: tapps on September 16, 2014, 08:04:54 AM
Well the 3 of us done hardknot pass yesterday.it was hard work on the beast.it was well worth it !!! The views were spectacular. Glad I done it.i was forced to stop shortly before the top as a car was approaching which flustered me to say the least.once I reached the top there was a hairpin bend which scared the crap out of me.what a fantastic day out we had.the weather's all good as well.

I have 2 left to to on my own, but 3 left to do with the other half.....  :-)

Aim for the next 6 weeks.

Alan, you did the Wrynose pass, but not the Hardknott the year before last. We can do it next summer though if you like..
But be warned it is VERY demanding, and not for the faint hearted.  If you are coming up North again next year and you have people who are two up, or inexperienced it may be a better  idea to find something less severe.   As you know there is lots of fantastic stuff to go at.       BUT not Whitby  :mfr_lol:

Ah right, we will be up next year  no problem, there might be people 2 up so we can give it a miss, the mountain we went up was hard enough when i had Katie on the back.

See you soon.

How is Katie doing on her own bike ?.                    Yes may be a good idea to give the Hardknott Pass a miss, I will sort some other good stuff out instead. .   Geoff

She is doing fine, she did an off road weekend two weeks ago and broke a couple of ribs so is a bit delicate right now, she will be with us next year.

Oh dear, she should stick to the tarmac. Never got on with the rough stuff myself, although it does give you lots of skills that you can use on the road. Give her my regards and wishes that she is fit and well soon.    Geoff.

As Geoff has said Al, you haven't been over Hardknott,......you would remember it if you had  :mfr_lol:

The surface is quite badly broken up and its a track that is more suited to an off road/adventure bike, its also the domain of too many tourists who think they are they are the only one on the road   :hammer:

Here's a taster for you me old china

Forget that, no way am I taking my pride and joy up there, if I had a dirt bike then perhaps but my nice clean GTR is not doing that.

Why would you miss up an opportunity to ride that route?

Ay 10 mph all the way and stopping for cars? Not my idea of riding a bike like the GTR.

You got that right!  Too much of a parade.  I like the BRP (Blue Ridge Parkway) but the limit is 45mph.  It's enforced more in NC than VA but I've had more than a few rangers flash their lights on me and then you have to watch out for the bicycles that ride in the middle of the road around corners and the motor homes driven by 80 year olds that stop to look at  :censored: bunny rabbits and they stop in the middle of the road as well, the motor homes, not the bunny rabbits.  Rabbits that do that don't survive long.

I've done it lots of times, but never with that much traffic on it. I actually think that the views when going up the Wrynose ( as you did the year before last) are better than the Hardknott.

The above video was taken on a Bank Holiday weekend, not the best time to ride the route!  :mfr_lol:
