Title: F1 warning
Post by: tapps on August 09, 2014, 08:56:51 AM
I went out on the GTR the other evening with a pal of mine, that dreaded red light appeared to flash a couple of time's & then the F1 or FI in capital letters took over the display, this is the 3rd time I've noticed this,is this something to WORRY about or should i simply ignore it,the 1st time I noticed it I told the dealer's it appeared & they shook there head's in disbelief, the bike's a 12 plate with 12K on the clock,it's been serviced at the required interval's.i dont ever abuse it by giving it a handful on the throttle in any gear, maybe that's the problem.i've seen on here some say it's a glitch & don't worry about it,at the end of the day that red light is a WARNING LIGHT & maybe it's something that need's looking into.

Mine also flashed at me on Wednesday. I was cruising at 65 when it happened. Think thats about the 3rd time Iv'e see it too.. I think it's FI for Fuel Injection and not F1.

I just ignore mine and keep going. If she breaks down I have AA who can take her to a dealer.

Mine has flashed twice so far (almost 9000miles now). There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, just a random event.

First time was at around 3000. miles in traffic, next time was on the open road at around 65 mph

It's still in warranty? Get it reported an logged with the dealer, most prob nothing but if it happens after warranty expires, you want them to know you reported it and that they did nothing and that they are still liable

I think if it displays briefly it would be reasonable to dismiss it however when I recently went for a ride with Charlie his came on and stayed on for almost 5 minutes. Its possible it only went off as we pulled over, shut everything down and then when the bike was restarted it had cleared.

I had my GTR diagnosed by a main dealer after mine had flashed on and nothing was apparently wrong anywhere.

I read somewhere as to what actually triggers the FI ( fuel injection) icon, it was something simple like debris going through the injectors or similair

Any drops of water in the fuel can trigger it i think.......done it to me briefly over my 22k miles and it was when i had filled up in wet weather....
As viper said, crap in the fuel as its very sensitive.

Doesn't happen on the classic first gen bikes.  Only 10s onward.  I believe it means you're going too slow.

No, I'm going to run it until it can't be run no more.  It's my last bike.  It's all I need and suites me fine.  The next bike will be a convertible with air conditioning.
