Title: Hilltop Remap booked in AND DONE!
Post by: KeVstrom on August 05, 2014, 11:06:34 AM
Been stewing over this for sometime now, as im getting sick of the jerky throttle responce on my bike. So ive finally taken the plunge to have it remapped by Geoff, and have booked it in for the 26th. £360 (plus 400 mile round trip of fuel) for the remap, no discount for us guys  but if you own a GS  :hammer:, you get a tenner off!

Sounds like a waste of £360 to me. I've had two GTR's and never experienced a jerky throttle. There must be a more practical and cost free option.

Hi kev, don't know if it'll help you, but I had the same problem after slowing down at junctions and roundabouts, could be quite jerky when rolling the throttle back on. Fitted a pipercross reusable air filter, then problem all but gone. Was only replacing it as I wanted to get a reusable filter. Might be worth a try

Thanks for the input guys, it is a lotta monies I know, I love the bike and I had thoughts about changing it but I'd know I'd miss it if I did sell up. I just need the bike to run smoother, in all conditions and then ill be happy. I know the fueling is slightly off and I do have the v&h can on so I know the remap will do it some good. I've been reliably informed it is worth it.

I'm thinking of getting mine remapped as well. My bike it smooth, but there is some throttle jerkiness that I want to get rid off. I mainly notice it when filtering

Mine happens all the time under all conditions. When I'm mid corner powering on, mid roundabout powering off, low gear, high gear,  just anytime on and off the throttle.  It literally makes for a very jerky ride. To overcome it, I have to ride the clutch but I shouldn't have too. I should be able to keep the clutch out and just feather the throttle. I had this issue on my old DL and in order to alter the low/mid range fueling, I built a yoshi box. The difference was unbelievable.

I am having the same problem, and I am thinking of getting a power commander fitted, any thoughts?

PC is a good unit, ive used them in the past, and very flexable and can be remapped to suit each additional mod as you go. I reckon its gotta be around the same price at least. Im just gonna go with the remap of the ecu thou, as i know its tried and tested. Also i dont have any plans on upgrading the bike further performance wise. Ill probably keep it a couple more years and change it.

No idea where the pub is but it cant be missed, there is what looks like a car garage with a few motors for sale on the forecourt, its there, up a slope and you will see the twin doors with Geoff in there.

Remind him that Alan will be back up soon and i will make arrangements.

OK so my friend and i arrive just before 1pm for our appointment. Geoff was just finishing off a ZX10R race bike he was mapping for another geordie lad, cant remember how much BHP it got but was just shy of 90 ftlbs of torque........ he was quite happy with his linear plots.

Anyways, after a bit of banter (trust me this guy can talk....... to anyone!) he got my bike in and strapped down.

Geoff started off with a base power run and this was the outcome.

Basically Max Power 144.08 bhp@ 9261.6rpm, Max Torque 84.34 ftlbs @6527.2rpm (AT THE WHEEL). There was a significant dip around 4000 rpm, but the bike was lean for most of the run. WIth that i left him to work and went for lunch.

On my return, geoff had done several runs, each one better and better and they went as follows;
Run 1 Max Power 149.87 bhp, Max Torque 96.94 ftlbs
Run 2 Max Power 151.76 bhp, Max Torque 100.07 ftlbs
Run 3 Max Power 153.83 bhp, Max Torque 100.64 ftlbs
Run 4 Max Power 156.24 bhp, Max Torque 101.75 ftlbs
Final Run Max Power 156.33 bhp, Max Torque 101.86 ftlbs AT THE WHEEL!

Heres the last 2 runs, plotted against the initial base run. Its much much smoother and linear. Also its beats the ZX10R haha

Plus 12 BHP & 17 ftlbs of Torque. Geoff reckon about 180-185 BHP at the flywheel. The part throttle seem smoother, and the bike is smoother in 2nd gear even from 1k rpm, as i was coming home into the estate. I wont get a proper ride around the doors till tomorrow, cos im done in after 400 (mainly motorway) miles today. Ive got old people pains all over lol. Ill upload the base run vid if i can get it off the cam some time. Its not the best as it was from behind glass (so youre not missing much.)

That looks a nice flat torque curve with a big gain at the bottom end  :sweet:

If im honest, i cant really tell the increase in power (yet), mainly cos the bikes fast anyways! but it just pulls, and sixth pulls well too. Obviously dont wanna incriminate myself lol. Cos we basically left and just wanted to get back, it was slow going on unfamiliar roads towards the M1, then just cruising all the way back at motorway speeds, so its hard to tell. Ill know better once i ride about on familiar roads, where i know where im going and how the bike normally goes along those roads. Ill report back soon.
