Title: Restrictor
Post by: lizard555 on July 22, 2014, 05:05:24 PM
Hi Guys,

Kawasaki 1400 GTR seems to me too powerful right now.

Has anybody heard about restrictor kit which would restrict it to let's say half of the power? I called my service and they know only of one that would put it down to 25 kW. I would like something that would put it down to 60 kW.

It is not due to my licence restriction, it is a personal choice. I will have it removed later on.

Thanks for your info / suggestions,
Jan

You should be able to get a French restrictor kit that will cut you back to 100HP, but surely its just a case of exercising a bit of restraint on the right hand?  The bike won't move at all without rider input

Run it in Eco mode , or take off two plug caps , or buy a honda 50 , then 70 then upgrade to the 90  :mfr_lol:

I think the suggestion from birchy is a good one .. the other ideas won't help a great deal

We've never had anyone asking how to make the beast go slower before....usually they want it to go faster.... :mfr_lol: .

If you need to ride slowly, I think you need to come on a ride out with me.

Is it a standard bike? Maybe it's had some performance enhancing work, but if it's still weighs 300+ Kg + passengers and luggage it will never be v fast :-) Add ballast maybe :-)

There is plenty of post test "advanced" riding training available, I personally try to do some training every year or so. Not sure about Dublin...

Just enjoy yourself at your own pace and enjoy the Emerald Isle :-)

Dunno about "never be  v fast"  I had an indicated 160 on the speedo on the continent last month and that with full panniers and a topbox.  Dyno shows 148 rwbhp.  Probably fast enough for me, but there again I do now get free prescriptions  :ninja:

Jan appears to be talking about acceleration....

Thank you guys for your comments. I asked about the restrictor actually. My bike is Concours - the American version and the European restrictor cannot be applied (I was told my Kawasaki).

I can't see why it can't be fitted to the Connie,       but maybe I'm wrong, maybe  there could be some difference with resulting emissions  ?

Thank you Guys!

I decided to try my bike after a throttle tamer has been fitted. (bought on www.aviciouscycle.ca)

If it is sufficient, I will leave it at that, if not, I will continue my search. Thank you for the tips!

Hi Lizard555

I read the original post and the comments (gentlemen not everyone is a speed freak) my view on it is I jumped on my GTR and hated the throttle and still do
its too twitchy at low speeds, Yes they are a fast bike  160 + on trip across Europe full -  luggage backed off then cos im old and slow.

It sounds like you have lost a bit of confidence (which a snatchy throttle does not help) smoothness builds confidence which builds pace, so ride it a lot at a pace you feel happy at and you will soon get used to it

well that's my pennys worth

thanks No73, yes indeed, I jumped from a small engine to too big unfortunately, I am having the tamer installed today, I heared a lot of good reviews addressing the exact thing I am having problem with. Yes, driving slowly and getting used to it. It is not that bad eventually. Thank you for your comment. Enjoy the ride!

Familiarity gained by riding your GTR will  help you to feel more comfortable with it Lizard

So the tamer works quite well. It is not an ideal, but it feels less snappy.

Hi Lizard mate - I have a French one (106 HP) and frankly it's still awesome.

The restriction seems to be more 'clever' than those that I have previously tried and so most of the torque seems to have been kept.  The only reason that I'm not perfectly happy with it is that it cost the same price as a normal one... Pesky French.....................
