I've been asked a question about the results on the course for the RoSPA Advanced Test.

On the April course the results were 2 Golds, 3 Silvers and 1 Bronze.

Previous course have returned a similar mix of test results.

On the course you will also have the opportunity to undergo an assessment under the Enhanced Rider Scheme.

With regards to payment, I would need an initial deposit to cover the hotel bookings and to secure the instructors, with the balance payable on the pre-departure classroom day.

Payments can be taken on a credit card.  On the last course one of the participants was allowed to pay the balance when we returned home as it coincided with his pay day so we will do what we can to assist in this matter. (to an extent!  We are not registered credit brokers so that arrangement with him was take on good faith).

I hope this furer information helps.  If anyone wants a chat, please text me and I will call you back.

Cheers.

We've just run this course again and still retain the 100% Pass Rate.

Dates are now set for May 2015. Tuesday the 12th till Sunday the 17th.

Slight changes to the add, is that the course will be run as one event with the theory day on the Tuesday and departing for Scotland the following day.  So it's a total of 6 consecutive days.

Also as we are using one base 'headquarters' Spa Hotel the cost includes Bed, Breakfast and a 2 Course Carvery Evening Meal on each of the days away.  Plus you will have the full use of the Health Club facilities, swimming pool, sauna etc.

Candidates will get to take the RoSPA Test and the Enhanced Rider Scheme Assessment at the end of the course.

A deposit of £200 is required at the time of booking and the balance would need to be paid by the end of April 2015.

We also do Presentation Gift Vouchers for all or part of the payment if you want a unique gift for a loved one.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.  If you want to speak to those who have done the course to see what they got out of it please let me know.

It would be good to have a few more GTRs along.

WOW, what a great course!

I thought I had rode some great roads until I went to Scotland, mile after mile of fabulous roads, incredible scenery and even the weather was brill! The company was great and even though I went as an Instructor, I learnt so much from both the serving and retired traffic officers it was unreal. The big Kwacka was completely at home on those roads and the week got better as it went on. The only problem was that I didn't want to come home on the Sunday!!!

Book me in for next time Andy.

Foody, serious question: Do you think that the learning 'sticks' with those who do these intensive courses vs. a slow build over a few months with lots of miles between sessions to ingrain the techniques etc. learned? After all the biggest thing to change is the mindset of the rider so they ride like this all the time.

STX1300Man.  What we did with the training in 'the job', was intensive, block training which was then followed up with refresher training every 18 months to 2yrs.  ( but depending on which force you look at now, that may have changed).

The idea with the RoSPA test is that they will retest you periodically which aims to keep your skills polished up.

This course is not a RoSPA course but it will serve those who wish to take the test.

It is an intensive course, and the idea is to get that repetition for applying the system set in place, and for it to start to become second nature.  Reading and linking the bends, and linking the hazards more naturally will bring big changes in the riding.

Improving observation skills. Sometimes it is the smallest detail that makes the biggest difference.

One student from the last course (who had previously had two motorcycle crashes) is convinced that they would not have occurred if he had done this course earlier.

The point about getting it to stick will be encouraged throughout the course and the tuition that is given is extremely close and detailed.

I've been running similar course locally for some time ( the 3 Countries is a fairly new development) and I am still in touch with some who did the early ones several years ago.  They still apply the principles taught during the training.

You and I are no different.  Nobody is born able to ride a bike.  It is only because I chose a job where I had to wear a funny hat for a couple of years, that I was given as much driver and rider training that you could ever wish for.

I'm just hoping to be able to pass some of that on.

When you consider that in the quest to get rid of L plates a novice can go from never having ridden to passing a Direct Access Test in around four days.

This course is intended to take the rider beyond that.

I hope that helps, and goes someway to answering your point.  Cheers.

Thanks for the comprehensive answer Foody. Perhaps I should have said: I'm a Senior Observer with my local IAM group and IAM First & ROSPA Gold holder (just my background! ).

Your intensive job course however was also followed up with day in, day out use of those skills.

It's that very point that made me ask and why I'm not a fan of intensive courses (riding or any other activity/skill). I have riders who've got their license that way and you wonder how they've stayed alive long enough to turn up for an Observed ride.

Good luck with the course.

For anyone who is interested.  Here is a short photo/video montage put together by one of the students on our last course. Just a bit of a taster.

http://youtu.be/CVTjhbUxiaE

A slight change in the course is that the cost now includes bed, breakfast and a two course carvery evening meal on each of the nights in Scotland.

(Originally it was an evening meal on just two of the nights so students had a bit more freedom during their time off, but the food at the hotel was so good they all agreed it was the place to eat and with the facilities at our Spa Hotel they didn't want to go anywhere else).

The next course is running in May 2015.

The £550 was the old 'local' course which was run over several weeks but did not include accommodation or the test fees and food etc.

This 3 Countries Advanced Course is a 6 Day, intensive course and includes the Spa Hotel accommodation.

This also includes Bed, Breakfast and two course Carvary evening meal on each night in Scotland and the test fees etc.

The cost of the 6 Day 3 Countries Course is £1280.

Full details can be found on www.1stclassrider.co.uk/advanced-training

If you wish to speak with those who have done the course to see what they think, I can put you in touch.

Cheers.

Wowwwww......   Thanks Foody..

I was perhaps considering it for next year, and I will (everyone will) get something from it, but I guess this is more suited to people wanting to gain more experience....

I doubt I would get £1200 worth of value from it....  But I would get a fantastic holiday!  :-).

(FYI... RoSPA Gold, IAM F1RST and what it says in my signature....  :-).  )

Thanks for the information....

Neil

All I can say is that one student who did the course earlier this year, when we stopped for
Lunch in Wrexham on day 1, he said he'd already had his money's worth and anything else that happened on the rest of the course was a bonus.

One student on the last course said at the end that this course had saved his life as it had changed his view on riding.  He also said that he had had two previous bike crashes and is convinced that neither would have occurred had he done the course sooner.  I guess you can't put a price on that!

I just want to reiterate this is not a tour or a holiday but an intensive training experience.

When you consider that 6 days of Direct Access 'L' test training comes to just under a grand and that's without the hotel etc, this course does have the wowwww factor with our students, but not for the price.

Cheers.

We have just had it confirmed that we can now offer the Advanced Motorcycle Test for the IAM on this course.

That means that candidates will get the opportunity to take the Advanced Tests (or assessment - ERS)
for,

RoSPA, IAM and the Enhanced Rider Scheme.

6 Days,  3 Countries, 3 Qualifications.

We have taken bookings for our next course in May 2015 but we still have space.

Let me know if you want further details and I can email you.

We also do Gift Vouchers for full or part payment for this course.

Have a great Christmas.
