Title: Shift Pedal Mounting Bolt
Post by: Redrat on July 02, 2014, 06:21:15 PM
Please check your gear shift assemby before a long trip as on the second day into my Spanish trip I went to change gear only to find the pivot bolt had disappeared - only 500 UK miles since a major service so none too pleased with that SAME dealership who damaged my cowling. The whole assembly was undamaged so a long 15mm bobbin bolt from a mates sports bike and a nut from an abandoned road sign got me back to Calais. However, I was very surprised to find the bolt torque is 18 ft lb and no mention of thread lock. I have yet to examine the pivot area of the gear lever as the makeshift bolt may have worn the bushing and the lost bolt has damaged some of the thread in the footpeg bracket. £150 for those two parts alone if needed and all for the sake of a £5 bolt and a good mechanic.

Sorry to hear that and hope it didn't deflect too much fun away from your trip. I'll check mine tomorrow just in case but I do tend to dismantle and re-assemble myself after I've re-greased the pivot.

If it's a Kawasaki dealer you are talking about who has done the work, please feed it back to Simon Chitty at Kawasaki UK, I've dealt with him before on a problematic matter and he came up trumps.
