Title: First proper blast out :)
Post by: Dibz on June 28, 2014, 06:50:09 PM
Took a ride up to Glenshee the other day and guess what?...no sore ass anymore haha. What a difference from only ever doing that run on Sports Bikes. Loved how the GTR handled.. A 200 mile round trip really gave me a chance to get used to it. Still gotta get change my riding style a lot, but I'm sure with a few more decent runs like that I'll start to calm things down. I've found the stock screen is pretty much useless as most of you all say on here. It's no good for my height, so I can see that being the first on the list to sort out. Other than that, I could of just kept on heading north till I ran out of land :)  Completely different riding experience all together. Don't think I'll ever go back to sports bikes now, think I'm fully converted. Oh speaking of which, I had a quick blast on my mates R1 when I got back home.. He wanted to see how the GTR felt.. I couldn't believe how weird the R1 felt to me already. It's weird how quick you get used to riding something different, then when you make the switch back again, you can appreciate why Sports Bikes require so much effort to ride. All I could say was how the hell do you ride something so uncomfortable haha.. It's only been a week since I traded the Blade in too.
Just as I got off the bike where that picture was taken, an RAF Hercules appeared doing a low valley run behind the bike there. Then it pulled up out of the valley right above me.. Only had the GoPro running at the time so the footage was crap. I didn't have time to get the camera out... Otherwise I'd of had a superb pic to show ya. I was tempted to see if he was going to circle back around again and I'd of had the ultimate race back through the valley, but he bottled it and headed North.
Anyway..... I'll try and post some decent footage next time I go for a blast worthy of filming..
Cheers

Another satisfied customer, think it's comfortable now Dibz, you should try it with a better seat...

They are definitely a different riding experience than sports bikes, the extra weight and size make the bike really planted and give a lot more room to move around on.
Get used to fact that these bikes are fat pigs and filtering will not be a pleasant experience, unlike a sports bike, you can then just relax a bit and enjoy the open roads they were built for.

Eventually everybody will convert and end up with a sports tourer .

Alright Shaggs....After spending weeks telling me I was making the wrong decision and to keep the Fireblade, he couldn't say enough good things about it.. Took me an hour to get it back off him... Seriously!!!
Oh yeah!!..... That's after I pulled away on his R1 with the Transponder still in my pocket
Luckily we had the headsets on and he shouted me back hahaha

Deffo mate... I can see filtering being an issue.. But as I'm trying to slow things down a bit now, maybe that will help with the transition.  Just got a new Givi E55 maxi top box for it too, so I'm all good to go now :)

Filtering is a blast mate you will be surprised how easy it is once you realise how easy they are to manoeuvre at slow speeds :)

just done my first trip too, 900 miles and compared to a sports bike its a bit of a pain not being ably to overtake and slam the anchors on as you don't stop anywhere near as fast, its only 6 inches wider than my sports bike but it seems miles more.
as for feeling planted? my 600 corners like its on rails and is rock solid whereas the gtr wallows around and my worn front tyre follows any road defects/ridges, it feels like im boinging about and the damping isn't working.
im sure it needs setting up properly so i shouldn't really moan.
my wife says the 600 is more comfortable than the gtr for short 50 mile trips despite her being able to lean back on the top box.
new seat time?
and my screen blows the wind right at my head unless I duck down which gets too uncomfortable
think ive got the longer screen? new model 2010
