Over the weekend I went over to Southend On Sea. On the Sunday I met up with Boomer. I was watching my Average MPG all the way... I was cruising around 75 to 80 in ECO Mode and did hit an Average of 57.7 but didn't get a pic... Here is what I did capture...

Excellent!
Debs, not too shabby for a beginner.

:surrender: Downhill and in neutral??? :mfr_lol:
It is possible to get that sort of MPG but these days I cant be arsed, what I get is what I get. Asif is a bad influence on me, recently I've even overtaken some tractors. :mfr_lol:

That's just showing off... :mfr_lol:

I thought I was doing well with a regular 52/53mpg average, though that is nearly all cross country B roads not long consistent speeds on A roads.
Wolf, do you really ride with your linked brakes in that mode? I find it unusable due to the large amount of front added in with so little pedal pressure. I have it in the other mode all the time (as in Debs photo).

Is there an option for linking the brakes then?
If so how do you turn it on/off?
The brakes are alwas linked. That can't be disabled.
I think the setting allow distribution of the braking force
Yep when it has two brackets round the symbol it changes the way the linked system works (set up pillion) it takes a little while to get the hang of how to use the linked system correctly but now that I have I would not want to switch it off :)

Yeah, I always use the brakes in the mode which is displayed, I did once try it in the mode which Debs has displayed which has more braking power and aggression to it, and I nearly went through the screen. :mfr_lol:
As Asif will confirm, at the speeds I ride at, the mode I have suits me just fine. (I think I've just insulted myself). :mfr_lol:

So to my original question - how do you enable it? I don't have the (00) symbol on my 11 plate only the 00
Hi
Ignition on, engine not running, press and hold the K-ACT button

:mfr_lol: Your not alone. I was chuffed with 50 on the display, but over 60??? Do you hold onto HGV's on the motorway or something???

Well that's thrown a spanner in the works. I thought I'd experienced when riding with the bracketed mode that the rear pedal had less effect on the front, but according to the manual that mode (2 - High Combined) actually puts more braking to the front than mode 1.
Time for a play on a quiet road tomorrow.

Now there's an idea, 70+mpg perhaps doing that. :mfr_lol: Don't forget, that 64mpg was averaged over a 400 mile journey which is pretty impressive. My normal fuel consumption though is low to mid 50's.
Don't forget different pressures are applied depending which you use front lever or rear peddle, I dropped the position of the rear peddle by 10mm found this helped eliminate that first grab when applied as I now have more room to move foot :)

The (00) is more for straight roads like motorways & dual carriageways and carrying a pillion.
The 00 is more for the twisty roads.

Even more interesting.
Debs pic from the owners manual explicitly says Mode 2 has less front brake pressure, yet the pic I posted from the service manual clearly shows that High Combined applys more front brake with the pedal than Standard Mode.

Everybody loves a comedian. :mfr_lol:
I've averaged 47mpg over the last 15k according to fuelly, the best being 53mpg. And thats running at around 5K - 7k rpm using engine braking when off main roads.
As i very rarely brake on the twisties i leave mine in mode 2 and only touch the rear brake pedal if i need to stop sharpish.......
I started the Fuelly thing to actually see how accurate the bikes calc is.....
My average over the 600 mile or so round trip form Lincoln to Holyhead, then through to Skegness overnight for Macmillan cancer charity ride at the weekend.

Thats why i do fuelly, according to that statistic on the clock, you will get 283 miles out of a tank of fuel. Try it Here (https://www.fuelly.com) its free :cheesy:
currently in Bavaria, 2 up , lots of luggage, lots of hills , not caring at all about mpg and still getting 48-50 today
this weekend - 900 mile trip -motorways up to Scotland and then to loch ness via the isle of skye and back missing out skye
wet roads there and back 39mpg
got 36mpg on the m74 (constant three figure mph)

Good point, but Steve rides so slowly that he doesn't actually need brakes. :mfr_lol:
I just fill mine to the brim every time and then work out how many litres (or gallons /4.55) ive used to travel those miles.
my best between fuel stops was 41mpg and worst like I said was 36.
watching the current mpg while it was torrential rain I was getting 65 plus so I know its all down to wrist activity and theres nowt wrong with the bike like I first thought.
was talking to an advanced instructor at an overnight stop who told me not to brake but use engine braking and I will get miles more mpg
makes sense
you just have to anticipate those blind corners using esp

I didn't come back and update this. Well I was having a brain f*rt :whistling: and my bike is set to the non-bracketed mode (the less combined mode) which ties up with the manual.
12.5 litres every day for a commute of 120 miles = 43.58Mpg. Bike shows 44.5 so close enough. Not bad for A127, M25 & M23.
Over the 1400 miles I did on last weeks trip to Scotland I averaged 55mpg which I was very happy with.
some impressive figures there....
The more you thrash it, the worse the mpg. I remember a long long time ago when I got it new, I took a trip through the mountains of VA, NC, and Kentucky and averaged 52mpg via the display between tanks.... Never have I been able to achieve it again.
My S10 has from day one, and still does return 60.7 mpg it will do even more on motorway journeys which only account for about 1% of my riding
I would just like to state that, when on page 1 Steve says " And I even overtook some tractors " ... He wasn't talking about my Gs ! :innocent:
