Title: Multi Bike INsurance
Post by: half man half pie on June 24, 2014, 02:53:24 PM
I know the insurance debtate appears fairly regularly but this is slightly new as I'm after cover for two bikes.

You cant use most comparison site for more than one bike and for the couple I telepohoned today, they dont have the GTR linked to my registration.
It appears as a ZZR and they wont change it and tell me I'm not covered if I insure it as a ZZR when its not.
From memory the V5 shows it as a ZG1400 though I may check later. Hastings didnt have either a GTR or ZG and neither do a couple of others
I like having one insurer for both bikes as it should be earier at renewal.  I'm with MCE who are OK but the level of cover for accidents seems to be reducing but the cost doesnt
I'm not planning an accident but as they say, they do happen.
One of the sites I spoke to didnt think they could take the NCB from the joint cover and apply it to an individual policy if I insured each bike seperately.
Anyone able to recommend a decent firm who provide multi bike cover ? Any I should avoid ?
I like the online service as I dont deal very well with some of the call centres who have a 'computer says no' attitude

I insure with Hastings direct so they do know about the GTR.

I don't have my V5 to hand otherwise I would check what it says on it, ZG1400 does seem ring a bell though.   Try putting the details on confused.com as I did and see what comes back, I have a private reg on my GTR which sometimes complicates things too.

For multi-bike, I'm sorry to say  you might have to talk to a human  :mfr_lol:

I had the " we don't recognise the gtr" problem a while back, my insurer had it as a ZG1400. Multi bike , yes you are right , in most case it cant be done online. Ive done it several times in the past , the most recent was my GTR and my zzr1200, I paid for the GTR policy and then an additional £40 for each bike . When you get a multi bike policy the rates for the main bike are not quite as good as getting a traditional single bike policy, mainly cos they are not on the insurance search engine sites, so I reality I reckoned the adittional bike was costing me about £80, still a good deal in my book.

thanks for that.
I had a good call yesterday through MCN to Bike Sure.  The chap seemed to knwo what he was doing and came back with what I thought was a decent price for a GTR and MV AGusta Brutale 990R of £330.
The bit what put me off was that I had to have a Sold Secure lock fitted at all times I wasnt sat on the bike.  If I didnt, the insurer wouldnt pay out for any claim - fire, theft or damage.  That included being on my drive.
The price of the two cheapest locks pushed it up to over £400 plus me having to remember to put them on !
I'll try the 1400GTR line rather than GTR1400 and see how I get on

I haven't had to make a claim so caveat emptor but I'm with eBike (http://ebikeinsurance.co.uk/) whose web site will provide an on-line quotation for multiple bikes.

AFAIK that's correct, if you've accrued an NCB on one policy it can only be used on one policy.

I had a not-at-all-competitive quote from Bikesure via a scheme on UKGSer which was supposed to give me a discount. More surprising than the amount of money they wanted was the restrictions imposed on European travel - one trip a year of 30 days or less - which was perfectly useless to us.

Before I started discussing money with them I tried to get the European travel restriction lifted but that was a fruitless exercise. European travel is unlimited with eBike although Bikesure weren't willing to accept that and suggested I'd misread the policy.

I usually go back to Adelaide with the quotes I've got and they match or beat it. Highest insurance group bike sets the price e.g. GSX-R or MV will be a higher group than GTR1400 2nd bike.

I've ended up with Bikesure who are only a broker so the policy is with Marker Study ?
At the end of it all, the GTR has the KISS system that is Thatcham approved so I only need the disc lock for the Brutale so I've bought a Xena XX14 from Chainspeed for £55.
I dont tend to ride abroad so only have minimum cover unless I tell them and pay another premium
I dug in with MCE and had an intersting conversation.  I was told the renewal was in line with what I paid last year which was roughly £350 for the GTR and GSXR1000 plus £225 when I added the MV, £575.  However, they hadn't decuted the £115 refund when I removed the GSXR.  Net of the charges for the changes of £50, that left me with a net premium of £400.
It sounded like the £600 renewal was based on the two sums I paid, £575, rather than the risk.
This probably catches the 'inertia clients' when they say the new premium is what you paid last year !

I cannot find a good review for Marketstudy :-( http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews123837.html (http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews123837.html) or for KGM that my Adelaide policy is with...http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews176598.html (http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews176598.html)

I paid less than £300 for my GSX-R 1000 & GTR1400 last year, maybe you get what you pay for??

I use ebikeinsurance for multiple bikes all done online. I can add, amend and delete bikes without any admin charges which is handy as I don't keep some of them very long!

I also used EBike, I found them to be great value and very easy to deal with, no extra admin payments for bike changes as you most of it yourself online, my only problem is that they " only" cover a Max of four!

And with ebikeinsurance you're not covered to ride any other bikes not owned by you. Not really an issue when you have more than one of your own!
