After not riding the old gal for a while ( enforced due to thumb surgery after a spill whilst off-roading) I get around to MOT and she passes fine with only an advisory for front wheel bearings ( they are ordered and will be replaced in a couple of weeks). I've read the nightmare of collapsed bearing shells on here.
I return to bike a week later for a mornings ride to prepare for the massive commute mileages and am greeted with "Low Battery"
I'm thinking "I can't have a dead battery at digs as the GTR is the sole transport". Im convinced the ride from and to Mot test would have charged fully so pretty certain the cells dead.
The battery's 4 yrs old and I always replace then generally but jeez - these are expensive! Anyway, at £120 for the "high capacity, heavy duty" job by am I right in thinking this should be the modern lithium iron type. To be honest I was hoping to buy one off the shelf and fit yesterday but no joy there. Any advice as I'm riding route A303 again on Sunday.
BTW the alternator output is fine!
Hi Tommytool,
Are you sure that the warning is NOT to replace the Kipass fob battery? A much more palatable £3-£5

Sorry, yes this is the issue. I've removed my previous post as its nothing to do with the main battery but the battery in the fob
Couple of quid to get it sorted
The correct battery is a CR2025, but a CR2032 will fit and has slightly larger capacity. Readily available from supermarkets etc
Funnily enough mine went this week, a few quid from Halfords and job sorted.
Sorry guys (and gal). Should have made it clear that its the great big battery I sit on !
If/when you do replace the battery get a MotoBatt Quadflex. I put one on my F800GS and it's awesome I won't use any other now. It has huge cranking power: I can leave it weeks and it will fire her up first even in below zero winter mornings. It holds a charge better and has four terminals for accessories (if you don't use a fuse block or accessory wires) so you don't overcrowd them (you have to buy extra terminals seperately but only a few quid).
