Title: Death of a GTR
Post by: doebag on June 21, 2014, 11:41:54 AM
Well sad to say, I have killed it

Travelling home from Somerset on Monday, abot 20 minutes from home. Entered a roundabout on the A47 near Peterborough, felt the front tyre slip, and next thing is the bike is on the deck. Not sure where we parted company, but we stayed close. The front has taken most of the impact with the kerb, not sure what the dent in the right hand fork was caused by,possibly lamp standard. Rear of the bike looks fine, Ant's crash bars saved my legs from nothing more than a few bruises, and the luggage.
Workshop manager at Wheels Peterborough reckons it's a write off, but waiting confirmation from the insurance company assessor.

There is an old pilot's saying "any landing you walk away from is a good one" well I stood up and walked away with just bruises, so thankful for that. Now looking for another Green 1400, they are THE only colour to have.

   Glad your OK, that above all, is the main thing.  It's a pity the screen looks like its had a good bash, you could have gained a spare bracket for your next bike  :mfr_lol:

As long as you are ok, that is what counts.

Was it diesel on the road? What tyres are on the bike?

Hope you ok ,as you know from my little extra trip a bike is a bike and can be replaced and isnt worth losing sleep ,i had a similar accident a few years ago and the barest slide will do the world of damage ,but once you get up and walk away its a win.

Thanks for the replies.
Tyres are PR3's, I could not see any obvious oil, but it had rained earlier in the day [ I rode through it] so it may have been just enough to lift some oil out of the surface.
It is a roundabout I have used a thousand times on two and four wheels.
Like I say, I walked away so always a bonus. I have some very interesting bruises on my upper right thigh, which I guess came from the handlebars/contact with the road.
If they will sell me the salvage, I will buy it back for spares. I have found a couple of green GTR on the internet, might ask some of you to have a quick look at them if you are local.
Charlie tells me I was not the only casualty of the weekend though, with Pross,Stoketim and Charlie all having tales to tell............................................

Glad yer Ok Martin. Front end washouts are frightening as they happen so fast. Its common for accidents to happen when close to home as you relax and get confident.

Andy, it was the middle one on the Thorney by-pass [B1040] Quite tight for a major dual carriageway, , so lots of wheel twirling for HGV's, and slopping around.

Just been in to Wheels at Peterboghorror.
I don't remember doing it, but when I ordered the bike two years ago, I must have ticked the 'short wheelbase' option

So now got a couple of hours talking to dealers with Green GTR's in their showrooms.

So far, bikes in  Dartford,Brighton,Gloucester,Wigan and Exeter have been found
