I have sold my FJR 1300 and want to replace it ASAP. I have found a 1400GTR 2010 model with a full Kawasaki service history, the bikes in lovely condition and a nice colour. My only concern is the mileage, is 40,000 for a bike like this to much and will I just be getting into something that's on it's last legs. Price of bike is £5400. Shafts are my biggest worry with this kind of mileage, am I worrying to much or is 40000 nothing for a bike as long as its been looked after. Not sure what to do.

40000 is not that much.. They are built to do over 100k... Thats a good price with full service history...
One thing to check if buying..
The Preload Adjuster turns. Very expensive to replace although I have found a way to fix this.
I'm sure others will mention other things to check..
My old 2009 had 54000 on the clock when I part exd it. She had to have new bearings each end on the drive shaft but that was just from normal wear and tear.
It's hardly broke in at that mileage...takes at least that long for the rear shock to soften a bit. The engine is rock solid. I fully expect mine to exceed 100k miles.

The rest of the gang will add their comments...................Mine and I are to young on mileage and experience to say.....................but I read and watched this site for years before spending my hard earned money......................I've not been disappointed.
Virginia Jim is the moderator for the USA site and some of his members have massive mileage on the clocks.
If the bike has been looked after and is in excellent condition ,then it's a good price ,you would be paying 3000 more for less miles, it's all down to price and mileage ,if you keep it long anough then it will not matter , I would worry more if it was 15 years old as things deteriorate more with age ,
Marcus,
I have now done 53k from new on my 2010, and it still feels sold and reliable. I fully intend to take mine past 100k before I think of changing it.
I would have no problems recommending a 40k mile bike, but I would recommend checking:
- Front brake disks and pad condition, as the bike is quite hard on disks (c.25k miles, £600 replacement cost) and pads (c.15k miles, £120 replacement cost).
- Check that the brake caliper and master cylinder rubber seals were changed at the 3 year service.
The regulator/rectifier went on mine at 50k miles, and you should be aware that the 48k service is a major one (c.£450).
Great bikes, enjoy it if you get it.
Martin.
Engines tend to be bullet proof. My previous bike had about 45k on it before it was written off.
Didn't have one issue with the engine at all. Compared to the 2011 model I have now, the engine felt nicely broken in at that mileage.
I'd be checking the splines, discs, bearings at that mileage.
Splines I'd regrease, aftermarket discs are about £150 (unless you want to pay £600 for OEM), bearings between £20 (cheap ones) - £45 (SMF) for a pair.
Thanks to all your views regarding this bike. I went to the dealer in Nottingham this morning and purchased the bike, bit of a bummer I can't collect till Saturday but then it's going through the workshop. Really looking forward to riding it, just hope I clock up more than the 800 miles I did on the FJR1300 I managed over 16 months. I'll keep checking the forums for any planned ride outs. ( unfortunately not one of my friends are into bikes) again, thanks for the reassurance.
hello Marcus and Welcome .. I'm with Jim and the others ... 40000 is nothing on a bike like this ... you will love I have no doubt ! Let us all know how you get on

 Martin......I don't buy original stuff, aftermarket front discs £120 pair ---- now done 12k and still fine.
Pads £80 ( i assume £120 is fitting included ) and as for the service cost....screw that !! That 2 sets of tyres :mfr_lol:

Time to meet some additional friends, Marcus. I'm sure that there are plenty to be had here. You'll find more over in the States.
Look here... http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=4206.0 Brings tears to my eyes, it does. I've made more friends with riding than in anything I've ever done......and quite a few I've never met personally....yet.
Welcome Marcus, I'm sure that Saturday will soon arrive and that you will be a very happy chappy
Hi Marcus. When you are ready. A meet at Kegworth for butties is on plus a Bimble on your new toy. We may even get The Wolf out to play lol
