I've just spoken with John and thankfully he's ok - he's already been operated on (minor heart attack)

At the moment his bike is at the hotel and they are happy for it to remain there for a short while.

John may be released on Thu but that is no guarantee.

Options for the bike are:

1. John will check his insurance to see if he is covered

2. Does anyone know of a good company that will ship his bike from UK to Ireland?

3. Does anyone know of any storage in New Quay that will pick up his bike and hold it in storage until John is well enough to fly back and pick up the bike?

4. Does anyone live near New Quay that can pick up Johns bike and store it temporarily?

I've rang one company: http://www.motorcycletransportservices.co.uk/ (http://www.motorcycletransportservices.co.uk/)

They'll pick up the bike, store it, and then transport it to Ireland on their next run for £250

Asif I'm 100% sure it's Newquay in Cornwall as John mentioned to me on the Sunday morning before we left he was going there.

Fair enough, bit out of my range for a rescue.
Thought it may have been the other one, close to the ferry at Fishguard > Ireland.

Hope he has a speedy recovery.

By not driving from Scotland to Newquay overnight and giving yourself a heart attack !!   You work hard enough  :nono:

Ok, this is my thinking at the moment.

The hotel is OK with the bike at the moment. Ideally it should be secured somehow, but we'll have to assume it'll be ok for the time being.

If the bike is stored somewhere by a member of this forum, John will have to fly back when he's better, get the bike and ride it home. I personally think he should rest and not have to worry about the bike.

Alternatively, we can arrange to have the bike shipped back to Ireland directly. Rather than storing it somewhere and then having it shipped, why not get the courier company to pick the bike up direct and ship it.

Charlie, does your van have the capability to shift a bike (tie down points, ramp etc)? I don't think its a good idea to drive overnight either ....

Do we know what John's insurance company's stance is on this? Does John have cover for the bike to be repatriated back to Ireland in the event of illness?

Charlie, does your van have the capability to shift a bike (tie down points, ramp etc)? I don't think its a good idea to drive overnight either ....

I was thinking of going straight down the M74 / M6 / M5 with an over night stop at The Belfry.

The van is more than able to carry the bike (Transit 140-350 MWB Hi-Roof) the product I sell weighs between 30kgs to 250kgs / unit  so how many tie downs would you like ?  :mfr_lol:

I will need to improvise a ramp but that is not the end of the world.

The offer of help is there ....................but lets see what cover John has before we spring into action.

I await your cunning plan and  instructions Asif

sorry to here this news, make a speedy recover John. all the best from Colin & Claire. I don't know if I can be off any help but I have a trailer built to carry my GTR. don't forget I'm in Norfolk, if enough people have a tow bar on their cars we could do a relay.

Sorry to hear this John, hope you get well soon.

@Caroline/John, I am about 3 hours from Newquay, on the Wiltshire/Glos border. I would be happy to go down on the train, ride it back to mine (on my insurance), and store it here in my garage until you get well enough to come and get it. I can pick you up from Bristol airport.

I can also borrow a friend's van to go and fetch it, but I think the GTR may be too high to fit into a normal roof Renault Traffic. I will check heights.

It's another option.

Martin.

Been on the phone to John

He's waiting for a call from a company via his insurance to recover the bike (not sure about the cost yet). So we may still have to help John out with recovery of the bike. Charlie/Ant/Martin - best be on standby

The next is to help John get to his ferry. His ticket is from Holyhead, and its a massive 10 hour train journey to get there with 4 changes. Not the type of journey that is advisable given his current condition. What's the nearest ferry port to Ireland bearing in mind John is in Newquay, Cornwall? Going to Penbroke is also a 9 hours train journey :(

I don't think its advisable to fly after a heart attack either, otherwise a plane would have sufficed.

Just seen this as stoketim told me - happy to help in any way required either with getting bike or John back. Happy to take car down, pick up and take him back to Ireland if needed. Holyhead is a couple of hours from me (Stoke on Trent).

If needed just let me know.

Hi Neil,

John is currently in Newquay, Cornwall and the trip for you to Holyhead will be over 11 hours.

Maybe we can look at doing a relay as Colin suggested - maybe Martin picks up and Neil does the remainder of the journey?
Title: Re: kawdolph needs help newquay
Post by: Charlie747 on June 18, 2014, 06:41:52 PM
I know this sounds bad but could we relay John by car to the ferry ?

My concern is that Limerick is the other side of the country and we need to minimise John walking with luggage around the ferry and port

OK Asif you beat me to the posting  :mfr_lol:

Newquay airport is very small alas, and I think a flight from there is likely to be many hours with a change. Getting him to Holyhead, and his already booked ferry, is going to be a monster journey too.

I could pick John, and his bike up from Newquay, and take him to Bristol airport where he would have a better flight choice. I could then take his bike home and store it for him.

I would need a little time to arrange all this, and borrow my friend's van, but may be an option.

Asif, feel free to give John, or his family, my mobile number if they want to do it this way.

This is a long shot but here goes.

I am away all weekend with the lads up Norf but back to Oxford late sunday, if someone can arrange for John to get to Oxford I can drive him up to Holyhead or wherever he needs to go on Monday as I am off work.

Obviously he needs to sort his ticket and collection the other side.

07759 210191 gets me but as I say I will be on my bike all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday so text me with your name and I can call back.

The bike is sorted.

John is comfortable to make his way to Manchester by train. It's at that point it could get a bit tricky with making the ferry but he will be in my neck of the woods  so I'll be able do a pick up and drop off to Holyhead.
