Title: Accessories
Post by: Mr Blek on August 19, 2010, 10:50:28 PM

Is there a definitive list of accessories for the bike? Windscreens, seats, luggage, raisers, HID etc ...

I've found a few things on line through Google. Sat nav mounts, etc but I think there is a larger market for accessories in the States at the moment.

The official Kawasaki UK site has loads of kit on it ..... there is enough there for most people. Enjoy.

I think I will be ordering the Pyramid hugger and one of those sat nav/radio mounts ;D

It says the hugger is for a zzr I presume it'll fit the gtr as well?

I'm pretty sure the pyramid zzr is compatible with the GTR. Best to phone them.

There's a better techmount mount. I know, I have one. I'll be damned if I can find it anywhere though.

I rang Pyramid today and spoke with one of their chaps. It would appear that the hugger for the ZZR does not fit the GTR :(
However the guy I spoke with at Pyramid said if a large enough number of people contact them asking for a hugger for the GTR they will consider designing one, so I suppose its up to us.
If you e-mail this address and enquire about the GTR hugger it may will work in our favour...       [email protected]

I still need to contact Skidmarx and see what the score is with them. Update to follow shortly, hopefully tomorrow.

Mmmm. I was pretty sure the pyramids hugger was compatible.
I have the skidmarx. I think its the standard one, not the carbon one

Does the skidmarx one fit without any modification or hassle?

I've heard some say that depending on the tyre the clearance doesn't seem right, but I've had several tyres on without issues

NB with that mount can you still open the tank compartment lid or does the mount restrict it opening? Also how do you secure your device to the mount, lets say I have a Zumo 550/660 how would that mount??
Title: Re: Accessories
Post by: Kwikasfuki on August 24, 2010, 01:35:21 PM
Nope, doesn't restrict opening. The techmount has plenty of holes on to which the zumo mount can be attached. The problem is you can only use the techmount for your zumo unless your prepared to continuously unscrew the mounting plate. Instead, you can get a repeated mounting plate that slides onto the techmount and attach that to the zumo mounting plate. You've then decoupled the techmount and zumo.

An even easier solution: put velcro in the techmount, or better still, the techmount mounting accessory. Then put velcro on the accessory you are attempting to mount. Easy. I've not had annual issues with it at all.

I contacted Skidmarx today, tried to ring them and no joy so had to send them an e-mail, at least they replied. The Skidmarx hugger seems to be the only option unless someone knows better.....

There's http://projektd.com/index.php?cPath=27_58

Asia based, but with a very good reputation. If you do go down this route, remember to add on shipping, import dut and then VAT on the total (inc shipping) and any handling fee.

You'll find it hasn't been shipped and you'll have to phone/email them to pay the postage.

If you look at their web site on the front page down the left hand side there is a link for international shipping and it says 0 and then gives you a drop down menu with various figures on it, how the hell are you supposed to know how much to pay?

QuoteThis is the spot where international shipping charges will be added to the total, as necessary. Select the appropriate amount of additional shipping as previously directed by Murph.

That's where the email bit comes into play

I got the email from them, $30 postage. Seems steep, but I'll pay it and hopefully the cost will be worth it.

There's import duty and VAT to pay as well. And if it comes via Royal Mail a £15 handling charge
Title: Re: Accessories
Post by: Lonewolf on September 04, 2010, 08:45:15 PM
All that on top of the thirty dollars?
Title: Re: Accessories
Post by: Kwikasfuki on September 04, 2010, 09:03:55 PM
Yes. Import duty will be charged on the total cost of the product and shipping, and then VAT onto that total.

I think import duty is 5%, so $84 + $39 = $124 = £80

5% of 80 = £84 + VAT = £98.50

And if its royal mail add £15 handling charge (bunch of thieves IMO)

Right well that's settled that! I'm not getting shafted with all that!

That's the danger of ordering from abroad. I think its OK if the total value is less than £30 otherwise Her Majesty likes to shaft one and all

Ah well, live & learn. There's another company you put a link up for which is based in the uk. I rang them a few days ago and they do have them in stock but they won't take orders over the phone, everything has tone ordered on line through their web site. I'm going to have to call them on Monday because I can't get the link for the bracket to work and add it to my basket.

Lonewolf, any joy with this? I too would like the same mount

NB, the link for the Tech Mount from Buy Bits doesnt work, they are aware of it and have created a new link if you want to do your techie stuff and change it.

I ordered one from them which I have just collected from my neighbour this morning cause they were looking after our house while we away on our hols. Its good to be back and be able to type on the laptap rather than the i-phone :D Their postage was £2.99, whereas Murphs postage costs were $30 plus whatever else you have to pay for imported goods.  :o

Anyway the mount is extremely well made, very lightweight and comes with all the bits and bobs to mount it, i.e. the longer bolts for the bars. Just waiting for the sat nav to arrive now.....

Thanks for letting me know. Link updated to http://www.buybits.com/product/sku_7613.aspx

I've just realised there's a different mount that I bought ages ago that I'm not using. I'll list it on the for sale forum. Not as good as the techmount.

I can say that for Projekt D, based in Taiwan, they have good quality product.
Shipping is high so make sure it is worth it.

For the GPS mount, I used the Kawa universal bracket, same mount as the techmount, but no shipping and VAT charges !!
