Hi Guys
My warranty is coming to an end in July and K-UK have written to me offering to extend it for £395 I think it was. (Sorry the letter is not with as I type this) They don't enclose any terms and conditions with the offer so I don't know how comprehensive the cover is, nor is it clear if the £395 is for 2 years more, or just per year thereafter. I think they were including breakdown cover as well which I don't need as it's not a BMW :mfr_lol:
Has anyone got any experience and is it worth doing is my question :ohplease:
Thanks
I think its worth it. Sure a dealer could do it cheaper though
I took it out on my bike, had to use it only the once when the gear indicator switch went bonkers, ok its a bit pricey but "just in case" anything drastic goes wrong then it pays for itself.
Alan
:agree: If for the sake of argument the gearbox went, then yes it would be worth it.
I'm just wondering how they view things like the TPS if the batteries fail - Knowing how vehicle warranties work, this like brake pads/discs, batteries, tyres, filters, wipers etc are classed as "consumable" items.
It would be nice to hear a positive experience from someone on here that has claimed under the extended warranty for TPS or discs for example that got sorted without quibbling and wriggling from K-UK before I spend £400.
Strange you had gear indicator problems BigAlan. I've just come back from a tour of the black forest, and one morning my gear indicator would not show it was in second gear, it was just blank. All the others showed OK. Then after 30mins, it worked again. Oh, and only one F1 Error in a week totalling 1917 miles. You can't complain at that. My average consumption improved from 39.6 to 41.7 over the week, I don't think it has been reset since new. I love this bike
A GSA rider I was with went through a litre of oil and a headlight bulb!!! but probably only 2/3rds of the fuel. :whistling:
@kwikasfuki "I think its worth it. Sure a dealer could do it cheaper though" Are you saying a Kawasaki dealer can sell the same extended warranty at a discount?
Its a set price, but I don't think the dealer one has the recovery option so its cheaper.
Here's the warranty stuff I can recall from my GTRs:
TPS on 08 model (low battery) - no hassle
TPS on 11 model (low battery) - no hassle
Display 08 model - no hassle
Radiator 08 model - declined due to wear and tear
Warped discs 08 model - no hassle
Hairline crack on brake disc 11 model - going through currently
Broken windscreen mechanism on 08 model - no hassle
There were a couple more but I can't remember exactly what. Its been worth it for me.
Definitely worth it, I've had new exhaust, new shock adjuster and some other stuff which I've forgotten about. £395 is the price for two years regardless of whether you buy it through a dealer or Kawasaki themselves.
Yup, I had the shocker replaced as well
I extended my 09 bike and had TP sensors replaced. Worth it for peace of mind though
What was wrong with the radiator, Asif?

Got a leak in it whilst still under warranty. My fault for not having a radiator guard
If it was a leak not due to road debris I would think that they should cover that...
Thanks Everybody
If it's £395 for 2 years as the wolf says, then it is definitely worth it as it seems to be transferable to another owner as well.
Yes, it's definitely transferable.

I was getting the same sort of figures, but last weeks ride to the Barcelona GP saw me getting 55 mpg on the way down and 54 on the way back. I found that the dealer had set the units on the display to US gallons rather than UK gallons. the US gallon is smaller that ours as their pints are only 16 oz as opposed to 20 over here. Got to be worth a look
 That's interesting. Does It have to be done by a dealer or does anyone know the way through the menu's so I can check myself?
Mr Pud, its something which you can do yourself, do you have an owners manual? Mine was also set to US gallons when I got it, easy to switch it over. I normally get 55 + mpg to the gallon. That's generally typical of the GTR unless you're thrashing it everywhere.
Ignition on
Press both upper and lower button until you see the list of 5 settings beginning with Tire Pressures
Press the upper button repeatedly until MILEAGE is highlighted
Hold the upper button for 2 seconds until MILEAGE starts blinking
Now uase the botton button to cycle through the options
Settle on MPG UK
Press the upper button again to save the setting
 Thanks guys, your the best, will try it out tonight. I thought something was wrong as I was riding like a saint during the trip, even my mate on his sprint ST was putting more fuel in the tank on every stop than I was, the only bike which did better was a GS.
Just had my discs (and pads) replaced on my 2010 12k miles model. 0.9mm warped. Thanks to Simon @ Kawasaki UK :-) Warranty doesn't appear to cover corrosion, my ABS "discs" are a bit flaky :-(
 So the first thing I did tonight was go to the garage and check. Now it's showing 50Mpg. I'm well chuffed !!! Thanks to Burchy And the Wolf. :punk: This bike gets better all the time.
That little alteration has just saved you a packet in fuel (or perhaps not)
Well folks just thought I would give a little update to this.
Just to say thanks really to KUK, I took out the warranty and paid online. Got a quick email back asking what size did I want for my free rain jacket. XL. So it arrived the next day.
So it was too small. So I emailed back, kuk said send it and they would swap. So I posted Thursday and the replacement arrived today, Saturday.
You can't get better than that.
I must say, I was I bit dubious about spending £395 on a warranty, but for 2 years, and if this is the level of service I might expect, I 'm sure it will be worth every penny.
Just one bit of advice if anyone else like me is about to do the same, pick the next size up from what you would usually wear.

Your bike isn't doing any more MPG than it was before, your economy hasn't changed, it just was showing you a distorted figure as it was calculating the mpg using usa imperial.
