Title: Leaving for GTR meet 2014
Post by: bacaruda on June 08, 2014, 08:10:25 AM
Start my first (EVER) touring trip hopefully ending up at the Belfry on Friday.
The trip will take me to Gothenburg and then ferry to Kiel this evening. Tomorrow it's Hoek van Holland that's the goal for the day, taking another ferry to Harwich.
Put on some AC/DC and crank up the volume:

HEY HO, LET GO!!  :punk:

I could use some of that cream!
Feels more like a weakling than a viking right now.  :embarrassed:
Sore butt, shoulders and numb in the hands.
My GTR vibrates way to much (will be dealt with by Kawasaki Sweden as soon as I get home) and aren't that great longhaul bike that I hoped it would be. At least not in this configuration/state.
Or maybe it's just me. ( i know, I prommised not to moan....)
I chanting my new mantra while in pain:  "Vespa to italy, vespa to italy, vespa to italy...." Helps a bit.
North of London now and will try to get to Bournemouth this evening.
Britain greated me with fantastic weather. Gonna be a wounderful day!

Got from London to Bournemouth yesterday. went by m25 clockwise and saw a sign "Hastings" and thought: "what the heck, haven't been there for 37 years. So made a little detour by Hastings and Bexhill. The veeerry narrow road between hastings and bexhill With hedges blocking any wiev of what was coming around the next corner was a bit scary.
A couple of pickup trucks and land rovers tried to kill me, but I survived.
Unfortunaly, my Gopro hero stopped recording after just 4-5 minutes so i didnt get that part.
Nice to see Bexhil where I was on a language trip as a teenager. A LOT of seniors and permobiles...
Going to Bovington and the tank museum today and will end up in ST Mawes this evening for a stay with some friends.

Here is a clip with the gopro + an external Mic under the seat.

You need to check out Zeb's super seat for comfort when we get to the Belfry plus lots of GTR to compare comfort / vibration levels

Check on that. I tried some injector cleaner, and it might improved the vibrations a bit.
Had a great ride yesterday down to st Mawes from Bournemouth. Spended a good 2 hours at the tank museum in Bovington (great exhibition)
Found some nice small roads leading to Exeter, and rode over Dartmoor. Some motorway riding on the A38 ( might have been caught on camera in a tunnel in Saltash.....  :embarrassed: ) The last bit of road leading to St Mawes where great, but I could do without your hedges..... keeps the pace down not seeing ANYTHING!
having a bike-free day in ST Mawes with Mike today.

Have had a hectic couple of days at work after returning, but now it midsummer and I got some time to write about the trip home.

After leaving Boomer north  of London (nice riding with you mate, Twin bros and Muzzy makes a great noice carpet together) I headed for Hendon and the RAF museum. Great exhibition (free of charge!) that caught my attension for 2 hours. Then straight to Harwich. Boarding and crash in bed to get as much sleep as possible.

Got out of custom at 8 am and headed east (managed to get into Rotterdam morning rush but it wasn't to bad). It rained for the major part of the trip through Holland ad germany but managed to keep the pace up pretty good anyway. Only roadwork was between Osnabruk and Bremen.  While sitting in the queue, a older Ducati came filtering. "oh, maybe it's okay to filter here anyway" I thought and hooked on to him. After a while I realized that that was not the case. Cars signaled, and a biker shouted something (obviously not very nice) after us. Getting closer to the Ducati I realized that the letter on the numberplate wasn't a "D". It was a "B".... A crazy Belgian and a nearsighted Swede.... I pulled of and got some fuel....

The rest of the trip through Germany was uneventful and wet. The skies cleared up as I got to the cost where I managed to loot the bordershop of 11 pcs of 3 liter bag-in-box a couple of Baileys and Rum.  Got to the Puttgarden ferry at half past 4 and got some rest on the trip over to Denmark. Decided to take the bridge over to Malmoe where I arrived 7,30 pm. Just 630 km  to go now, almost home!
The sun set at 10.30 but due to the time of year (midsummer) it doesn't get pitch black, just "darkish" and it only last for a couple of hours so it started to get brighter half an hour after midninght. It's pretty nice going 120-130 km/h, no traffic, morning mist over the lakes and Supertamps 2take the long way home" in your speakers. The worst was the cold. After sunset the temperature plumbed to 7 degree, even down to 4 on the last 100 km. Only having a skirt as the only longsleeved  thing with me and no lining in the jacked, I froze pretty bad. Had to stop for fuel coffee, Red bull and to get some warmness every 200 km. Just go into mission mode and cope with it.

Arrived at my house around  2 am Tuesday morning after 1490 km and 18 hours. The total trip ended up to be 4298 km. hands, shoulders and neck hurting like hell, but my behind have finaly become a good friend with my seat so that part was pretty ok.

Thundernugget have had the vibration issue sorted out, got washed, fresh oil and a service. Ready for the next trip on wednesday.
