I'm toying with the idea of fitting a Kenwood radio to the Autocom system. Does anyone know, if I have a battery powered Autocom, (battery powered rather than bike powered) can you still fit them or does there need to be a connection to the bikes battery?
Additionally the PTT toggle switch, how is that powered? If anyone has any suggestions and even any step by step instructions with photographs that would be greatly appreciated.
Meanwhile, here's something you dont see everyday!

Seaways, Fridaythorpe today. ;D The three black GTR's side by side were a bit of a talking point, someone even said, "It looks like a GTR Owners club" ;D
Yes indeedy :)
Mine in the middle, Winston's on the right & Norman Bates's on the left.
The TDM 900 looks lost ;D
Mine is fitted via the grey lead. You need the harness with a PTT built in - it's a Y shaped piece of kit.

Totally over my head....should that have meant something to me??
PMSL!!
There should be a grey lead that comes out of the box (Autocom) same as the ones that the leads for your helmet fasten into.
Starting again - there will be Three leads with big chunky rubbery ends with little metal contacts inside.
The one that's grey is for the radio. You need a lead that goes into it. This lead splits - one end goes to the radio, the other has a PTT attached that goes to handlebars. http://www.autocom.co.uk/PDF/GreyPTT2388.pdf
Speak to Autocom - they will supply the part once they know which radio you have.
I would recommend the Intaride IR 803 radio - it uses a Kenwood lead so no special orders needed from Autocom.
Here's some pics from today:

And this is the sort of thing you find BMW owners get up to...........
I like the 3 Gtr's in a row .... you just need a nice GREEN one in there to finish off the picture !
I dont have any other leads coming out of the Autocom other than the rider and passenger headset leads. I didnt on my Super Pro either. Certainly with the Autocom unit I have now the bike lead is an optional extra, I know there is a connection point inside the unit to plug a lead into.
I'd best give the experts a call on Tuesday and get some advice from them. As long as I can power it all independently of the bikes battery that'll do me just fine. ;D
Hi
Years ago I had an Autocom + Kenwoood radio setup. You had the option of either powering the Kenwood radio via via its own rechargable battery or an adapter connected to the Autocom unit. I opted for the adapter unit connected to the Autocom unit which is/was a an addition lead you had to buy.
Regardless of the which method you use you still need to connect the radio to the Autocom unit.
However they may have changed things since then.
Kind regards
Steven
I think is the part you would need - doesn't appear compatible with a PTT

I spoke to Chainspeed (Autocom specialists) this morning and ordered a few bits. I have bought a Kenwood TK3201 the former version of the newer TK3301 to save myself a few quid. Then I have ordered part number, 2360 a Kenwood Autocom interface lead, part number 2432, a handlebar PTT set up and finally part number, 2430, a 12v remore powered bike lead.
It should all be with me tomorrow. ;D
