Title: Immobiliser Error Message
Post by: onya_bike on May 22, 2014, 05:50:36 AM
Just back fro 3 weeks holiday and a beautiful day yesterday , so went to fire up the beast , which started but showed:
"Immobilser Error"
So turned it off and then was stuck with an immobilised bike. Frustrating. Any one have any ideas why? I got Fowlers to haul it in and they think it could possibly be that the battery had lost some power over the time it was unused and thus instigated the immobiliser message. I don't have power where it is parked or I would have it on trickle charge with the Oxford charger..it is moving to a new garage soon with power so hopefully that (trickle charge)will sort it out. In meantime waiting for diagnostics from the workshop.
Happy Trails.

Did you physically try putting the transponder fob next to the steering lock as advised in the manual (because the fob battery needs replacing?). Service Manual has the error message but no fix :-( Is the KIPASS ECU fuse OK?

Hi Andy,
Yes, read the book and tried 3 fobs, seems once it is immobilised thats it, unless theres a hack...there usually is I guess. I will post what the shop says. I am hoping it is just the lay up.

What exactly happens when you push the ign. switch down- does the LCD display anything at all? Or does the bike do and show absolutely nothing?

Yes, came with 3 fobs, 3rd was in service book and does not activate ignition.(could be battery or fob from another bike by mistake, who knows?) ..this was the first time I tried it..(3rd fob).key fits luggage though. The bike is still in the shop so can't try any procedures at the moment.
The bike goes throufg the start up routine, shows Kawasaki logo and looks normal, but on pressing the starter it flashes the red light top left hand side of instruments and it turns the starter motor but will not fire up...which I guess is it being immobilised.

I'd be surprised of the immobiliser let you get as far as spinning the engine.  Sounds like a Fuel Injection fault with that red light coming on

If you can turn ignition to ON then KIPASS must be working? I change my motorcycle remote batteries every year :-)

KiPass is working fine and you do not have any problem with the 'immobilizer'. If the LCD screen illuminates, and does not display any obvious error then the bike is working correctly  to that point.

It sounds like the interrupter circuit is causing your problem; I get that same red LED when pressing the starter button if the sidestand is down while the bike is in gear, for example. If everything is in correct starting mode on your bike (sidestand up, bike in neutral, kill switch on, 'bike down' sensor working correctly AND the bike is not lying on its side....) then there is something wrong in that circuit. There was a gentleman who did have a tip over sensor fail if I remember correctly. There have been a few sidestand switches fail, and this will cause the situation you describe.

A dealer should be able to trouble shoot it in short order with a meter and just a couple of test.

Best of luck getting is squared away.

For information, I installed a 2032 into my remote and it works fine......  The 2032 has more power so should last long.....

It's also fits without any problems, except that it's slightly thicker..

Just got the bike back and it was the battery being slightly underpowered after the lay up. Bit annoying as I could have charged it up myself but after seeing the "Immoblisor Error" message I did not want to take any chances of being stranded somewhere with a non starting machine. My other bikes start after months of non use so I guess the battery is an old'un. At least no dramas with warranty or complications.
Just ordered a new set of boots, Road Pilot GT4's for next week.
Happy Trails

Onya,

I have a solar charger on my garage roof, as it has no power, keeps the battery topped up. You do need to extend the cable.

Works for me
