Title: FROM A BANDIT 650 K9 TO A 2008 GTR1400...
Post by: slatertiler on May 20, 2014, 08:26:45 PM
Hi people, Allan from Meriden here...After many happy years riding baby bandits, my brother started a cube war by buying a cb1300...not to be out done, I ran down the local kestrel dealer, who had a fine looking gtr 14 in the window. I tried it, loved the thing, so bought it. there are a few niggly little things to iron out, but the pure starship proportions and brute force behind the motor compensates amply for whatever it was my wife said I was compensating for....Mine is now officially bigger than my big brothers, which, for now, pleases me.

looked on a few American sites for stuff I will need, before finding this place, so hopefully, I can get advice somewhere on how I should be getting the low range throttle snatch under control (seemed to have sorted it to a large extent by tightening the throttle cable up all the way, but would like to see if there is a mapping solution somewhere, seeing as there is next to no adjustment left) Also need advice on a big screen and better seat...why oh why do they make them slope towards the tank so my testicles tuck up under my arse when I brake, and necessitates the use my mighty forearms to keep me back from the tank over long distances? I can put up with the Mrs cramming her bits into me as I brake, (it is as close as we have been for years), but it needs sorting, because it hurts my elbows/nuts and she moans a lot..not because she is pleased, but because with the on off throttle response, she keeps head butting the back of my lid and sliding around like my 3 year old on a helter skelter.
Anyways..nice to be here, here's to a long relationship with her, and the Mrs.

Allan, hello and welcome. I'm sorry to hear that your nuts are suffering as result of buying a GTR but I would like to congratulate you on buying a GTR nevertheless.

Life can only get better from this point forward. Screen wise, plenty aftermarket ones to choose from, I have a C-Baileys screen, taller than the standard screen on a 2010 model which in turn is taller than the screen on a pre 2010 model.

I have an aftermarket/adapted seat on mine by a company called Saxon. I've done over 600 miles in a day on it and no significant discomfort. However which ever direction you go with this, whether replacing the entire seat or having yours customised its a relatively easy fix and doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg.

hi Wolf..
glad you mentioned the Cee Bailey..I have ordered their tallest, widest ultra tour screen..I am a 6'3" chap and already have a tall aftermarket screen fitted (was purchased like this), which is still causing my head to vibrate at motorway speeds +...most unpleasant....reviews of the Cee Bailey suggests it will be a fix..fingers crossed!!
The seat, I can live with for now tbh...it is good for the regular 130 mile trips to visit the other half in West Yorkshire every other weekend..Dunno if I am barking up the wrong tree, but the bike has 2" risers fitted, which I think is actually altering the riding position to the extent that I sit too upright, and my butt slides forwards because my hips are not properly positioned...first stop is to take the risers off and see if this makes a difference.
All in all, I have had it for 2 weeks and it is a major step up from the bandits..I love it as it is, but with a few tweaks, it is going to be around for a good while, me thinks.
Cheer for the reply. :D

I have the 2" risers on mine and wouldn't be without them. If you like to lean forward and get wrist ache then take them off for sure  :mfr_lol:

Welcome aboard Slatertiler,
Many of the Yanks swear by the ThrottleTamer to cure the snatchy throttle.

I haven't tried one yet but probably will soon.
When you get your saddle redone, make sure that they make it flat if you're gonna keep the bar risers.
I'm 6'4" and I feel your pain. Sitting on yer own nads is really not very comfortable at all.
I had mine redone locally and it's better but needs to be flatter.
The saddle will be going back for some mods.

I have 2" risers, the Calsci Large screen (I really need the XL) and may also be trying some riders peg lowerers in the future.

Being a vertically challenged owner with the BMI of a giant I'm ok with the standard set up...............but will be looking at screen and seat soon as screen to low and narrow for fat head and after a day out with the Wolf the seat sponge and my arse needed 48hrs time out  :mfr_lol:

Charlie after you type something as you have above, check it before you hit that submit button. Basically what you've said is you went out for the day with me and then your arse hurt and you needed to rest it for a couple of days...... :mfr_lol:
