Hi folks
I currently own a ZZR 1400 and am now looking to trade to a GTR
Could someone tell me if it is possible to fit a GTR through a standard width door which I'm able to do on my ZZR (with folded mirrors) to get it undercover.
Do the mirrors on a GTR fold inwards?
Not the end of the world if it won't fit, just means a cover over it outside but still secure
Thanks in advance
The mirrors do fold in but I cant think what width it is with them in...
If you do have to keep it outside then I recommend this cover. Its really good quality and fully lined.

I bought the XXL size and it fits perfect without the topbox fitted

Thanks  that looks ideal.
Nothing worse than water from the bottom of the cover rusting discs and other lower areas of your pride and joy
To get around this I used to ride my ZX 9 onto one bike cover, pull it up over the bike, then put another cover over the top. Bit of a pain, but kept the bike nice while it was outside
I've just been out and measured mine for you with the mirrors folded, unfortunately I doubt you'll get the GTR through a door unless you have a non standard door. The width of the GTR with folded mirrors is 39 inches but you'd need 40 as a minimum and ideally a bit more besides.
A standard door width is 33 inches or at least they are at our house.

Perhaps I was being a little optimistic there :surrender:
I shall look into having a larger door way put in. EEK!

Nobody said owning a GTR was going to be a cheap option! :mfr_lol:

And a very speedy response. Much appreciated :punk:
Why the change from ZZR ? They are a nice bit of kit. Want more uprighty riding position ?

I wanted to do weekends away on a bike. My other half won't get on the ZZR, said she wouldn't feel safe without the "boxes" :mfr_lol:
Not sure how I will adjust to the GTR? From what I've seen on the reviews on YouTube, the GTR seems more than capable of the "big grin" factor
The GTR is more than capable of putting a grin on your face.
Is that your bikes beer fridge ?
If so you really know how to care for your bikes every need ................................................
or is it a beer fridge for resuscitation immediately after pushing the ZZR into the utility room ? :mfr_lol:
I believe with a little thought and a little work, you could get the bike inside..... the ZZR official spec width is 2" less than the GTR, but obviously they don't take into account the mirrors, folded in or outwards, and then there is a difference in weight for manoeuvring too....
Your other half will enjoy the comfort and feel safer too.
You will notice a difference in power too, but not as much as it feels as the GTR gives great wind protection.....ample power for everyday riding, touring and the odd ' mad moment '...as you do
Good luck and enjoy.....

:mfr_lol: I wish! Not a beer fridge Im afraid and not a utility room. This is an out building at the bottom of my garden. That 'fridge' is a cabinet for tools, paint etc.
on the other side of that partition is my gym :sweatdrop:
Another angle -
Thank you. I'm hoping to use the GTR on a daily basis, where as the Zed gets used once or twice a week. I didn't get much use out of the Zed last summer, only 2500 miles.
With the daily use of the GTR, I wouldn't want to be wrestling the bike out of that doorway. I have mastered getting the Zed through the door, I'm concerned about the extra weight and size  :sweatdrop: :surrender:
With the other half taking an interest, hopefully the GTR will see more miles, more places.
I notice from pics on this forum that the GTR can look quite 'sporty' without its luggage
:hammer:

I had my Harley Sportster 1200 in my appartment livingroom, (before i met my wife). Made a stunning christmas tree, but also resulted in a hole in the bathroom door. ( my buddy dropped it into the door during a new years party. We thought that it would be a great idea to take out on the balcony and start 12 a' clock. Many things went wrong at that party...)

This has been noted for the morning afterwards inquest. To be held @ The Belfry Sunday morning breakfast :hammer:.................... :mfr_lol:

The width of the GTR with folded mirrors is 39 inches se.
That's odd. Mine is 36" with the mirrors folded (and the panniers off), measured across the mirrors

It is 36"...... 39" is measured with the mirrors folded forward. Either way a bigger door is required.. :surrender:
You didn't tell me which way I had to fold the mirrors! :surrender:
GTR's are fat pigs of bikes, mine wouldn't fit in through the gate so I just removed the mirrors every time I had to put it round the back.
I've now made a 4' gate further down the garden to put the bike in a larger shed so should ride straight in now, soon as I finish the shed roof that is.
Well folks, due to the size, weight and resulting storing issues of the GTR, I've had to opt for a 14 plate ZZR
Already I have had issues getting the big zed into it's sleeping place. School boy error, did not allow for the larger than life standard cans :embarrassed:  it fits, with some careful manoeuvring, only just though :sweatdrop:
Thanks for all your help and advise
Ah well, maybe in the future. I see you've opted for the pannier mod on the ZZR. Lad at work has those on his ZZR also.
Yeah, apparently Givi only supply 1 set of (hybrid soft hard) luggage for the 2012 gen 2 cos of the large cans. I think they're TD600's. Not as big as the V35's but I like them.
Having a Givi Blade box put on when the base plate arrives.
Not quite the GTR set up but best of both worlds for me.
Oh, and I have my first 'scratches' on the bike today. Steering bike into front garden, left hand can hit the gate latch! OUCH!
Clumsy :censored: . Cursing yourself or laughed it off?
Gutted! Then I found out that the gate latch pulls out of the wall so this could have been avoided altogether
I have some black satin heat resistant paint in the shed (painted my z750 zorst), will touch in the scratches on the weekend
