Title: Thanks Brittany ferries
Post by: No73 on May 10, 2014, 08:52:44 AM
Well after a fab trip down to the Moto GP  via the Algarve and then back up through Spain 2300 miles the trip was marred by the numptys not securing the bike properly (should of done it myself) and it fell over onto a Honda Valkyrie,

damage - broken off wing right hand mirror, gouges in fairing, fuel tank, right hand pannier, and exhaust has marks on it, scuff on givi top box,

I am still wondering how a 300KG plus bike can fall the wrong way from the lean on side stand, as I think about it probably the Honda fell on me, but their report says mine fell over.

I even pointed out to them when they started strapping that the mine and the Honda were really heavy bikes and was responded to with the French equivalent of ok ok we do this all the time.

The Deck officer looked like he wanted to cry - lol

So off to Kawasaki Centre shortly for estimate, insurers (via Bennetts) wanted me to send it to Surrey for repair , not a chance of that happening

I will post pics of trip and damage and a couple of good hotels we found later this week :tank:

seen a few ferry claims and usually you come out ok .

im amazed that ferry companies actually take responsibility for securing bikes , whenever Ive used the hull to zeebrugge ferry they just show you a pile of ropes and owners have to do it

Unlucky, hope it gets sorted OK.
We are going over to France later in the year on the ferry, thankfully mine can not fall over, must remember to put the handbrake on firmly.

Im going over to France in June with Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth. Never been with them before so hopefully things will be ok...

The best company I have been with is www.myferrylink.com from Dover to Calais.

The bike is sat in a channel with front wheel in a chock and strapped both sides..

I'll stick to using the tunnel and enjoy a few extra miles riding on the other side me thinks - wife hates ferries anyway so that's a bonus...

We feel seasick just reading the brochures, so have never used anything but the tunnel since it opened. Not long ago, at the insistence of our daughter, I chartered a boat in Tenerife to go whale watching for the day. After some 30 minutes, when the engines were cut and we were riding the swell, we were all so ill that I said we must return immediately, forsaking the day's hire, lunch (for several days, as it turned out) and everything else.

Never again!
