Title: Anyone had success getting cosmetics sorted under warranty?
Post by: Martin#30 on April 25, 2011, 08:48:58 PM
My 7 month and 10,000 mile old bike will be needing some warranty work when it goes in for its next service, as the rear shock pre-load adjuster no longer moves. I've owned it from new and serviced it on time at the supplying dealer so I expect no dramas here.

I am wondering whether to raise some cosmetic/finish issues under warranty too. Part of me simply thinks I'll get palmed off as they are non-mechanical, another part of me wants to push this as it bugs me greatly that manufacturers continue to make bikes that cannot handle winter.

So, wondering if anyone has had any issues similar to below sorted under warranty? Worth fighting to get these fixed?

Martin.

Exhaust "cap" at the forward end of the exhaust

Bottom frame plate on left hand side, this seems to be a problem on all GTRs I have seen:

I've got exactly the same scuff mark and my suspention ajuster seems to have packed up at 7500 miles and it's just out of the warranty

The Exhaust issue has resulted in warran ty claims being honoured before.

Adjuster should be sorted without a problem.

Left side hanger wear?  Live with it - mine's gone the same, but it can't be K's fault -just wear and tear

Your exhaust is in a poor state considering the age of your GTR. Definately a warranty issue I woud suggest. Alternatively consider getting it powder coated, pretty cheap for something that size and it'll probably be more durable.

The exhaust I would say definitely needs to be looked at under warranty.

A friend at work had almost identical problems as yours, especially with the exhaust, and the dealer was very good about it ... all sorted under warranty.

Thanks all, this gives me confidence that the cosmetics (at least the exhaust) will be addressed under warranty.

I agree with Winston that the LH hanger issue is wear and tear, and perhaps harsh to consider K at fault on, but it irks me that this area seems to wear on so many GTRs - more of a design/materials choice flaw than a warranty issue. On the other had though, Mike Armitage managed to persuade K to re-paint this frame piece on his Bike Magazine long termer.

Bet the fix does not last long however.

Martin.

every bike i have owned for the last 5 years has sufferered from wear on the hangers & Plates......its just boots rubbing against them when riding......get them powder coated (matt black is my choice) and then cover with some 3m defendall self adhesive plastic sheet, that'll stop them from going off again ;D

I had my centrestand replaced under warranty.
After 10,000 miles it was covered in rust.
Welcome to the world of cheap-crap paint that is so thin that if you look at it in the wrong colour of voice it will wear off.
That is about the only complaint I have with these newer bikes.
Triumph and Honda still seem to have decent paint but the rest (including BMW) are crap.

Thought I'd post back to say that Kawasaki have approved repairs to the siezed rear preload adjuster, and the flaking exhaust under warranty.

Parts ordered, but not yet fitted. No argument nor hassle, an impressive response from Kawasaki.

Hi

I do wonder if there is an issue with the rear suspension pre-load adjuster?
In May I found mine had stuck and I did eventually manage to free it up but it took a lot of work and time to free it up, at the time my GTR was 9 months old with about 7,000 miles on the clock.

Kind regards

Steven

Yep, I waited until the next service was due to take it in. Took about 2 weeks from dealer inspecting to dealer phoning me and saying warranty work approved.

I reckon most of that 2 weeks was the administration nightmare that is my dealer  ::)
