Hi,
I'm Dave , I've been looking at purchasing a GTR 1400 for a few years now, ever since I bought a ZZR 1400 to ride to Spain on about 5 years ago. But one thing or another has conspired against me and I've been riding anything other than a GTR 1400
So, anyway I've actually gotten around to getting myself a 2009 ABS model, which I am very happy to say has delighted me in most respects but disappointed in others, hence why I have navigated my way to this great forum, to walk amongst fellow GTR 1400 Brethren and discover the secrets of making this bike just that little bit better.
I hope to be a regular on this forum and thought it best to introduce myself first, as I may be seeking some advice.
:185: What is it you don't favour re the GTR?
Hi wolf,
Well I'm 6'6" and the bike obviously wasn't designed with my extra few inches in mind so it's probably a common issue of helmet buffeting, making me think I need a slightly taller screen, also at around 4000 rpm the vibrations through the bars don't do me any favours. I had the same issue on my Old ZZR 1400 so obviously an engine trait, nothing horrendous but it would be nice if I could cure it maybe with some different weighted bar ends to move the vibration to a different part of the rev range.
Other than those two minor issues its everything I want it to be for now and certainly doesn't disappoint.
Hello Potty and "Welcome" ... plenty on here who can help you with big screen advice .. it has been covered lots ! Vibes ? Some get them and others not ... my Gtr was smooth all the way through but others i know have had problems .. I am sure they will be along soon to assist ! Enjoy the forum .. it is really a great place to be.
Welcome - Pics Please!!
Hi and welcome, don't get em started on screens, does your model still have the smaller screen as they changes the stock height around that time to what was the optional one which is now stock on the newer models?

Hi and welcome.
To help with the vibration through the bars, just fit some grip puppies.....
welcome Brother Potty
Thanks for the welcome, the grip puppies look ace! I'll be getting a pair of them next week :)
Hi Noodly
Yup, Grip Puppies, heavier bar end weights, and a Calsci XL screen.
I have the Grip Puppies and they also help those like me who have long hands.
At 6'4" I have the Calsci Large and it is not quite tall enough but if I hunch a bit I can completely get out of the airflow.
I also fitted 2" bar risers.
Now all I need is a comfy seat and to get the suspension sorted.
The ride is a bit too harsh for my lower back.
Ask Yorkshire Pud about screens as he now has to the same height lol

Yeah great Zebedee. I have a £90 pound screen which is the same as stock, which came in a box so big I could put both my kids in. What a
:185:
Thanks for the advice Boomer ! I had a look at another gtr yesterday and realized mine has some bar risers fitted, I'll take a picture of mine this afternoon and see if someone can tell me which screen I have fitted.
I also have lower back issues at the moment :undecided:
Ahh the curse of being tall, or course in my case being fat doesnt help either. ;-)

Hey
short people ,.... I was referring to the lower back pain, not the screen height. :mfr_lol:
I'm just under 6' and I've got a large....screen :-) http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Concoursprod.html (http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Concoursprod.html) obviously depends on your proportions body to legs

I wish!! It comes from all chairs being too low, doorways being too low and cars and bikes being too small.
Spend your life folded up like a pretzel and you too will get to experience the joys of chronic lower back pain.
I had the same problem being over 6' tall, so I bought a big screen and still had a few problems, I ended up getting a heat gun and heating the top part of the screen up and rolling it back on itself to add a lip. No real problems with buffeting now.

Neat fix
