I have now decided that I am going to do my southern trip next year.. I will be away about 6 weeks starting May/June time.. This is the rough route I intend to take, spending at least 1 week in Corsica, 1 in Sardinia & 1 in Sicily..

It would be really nice if anyone wanted to come along with me, otherwise I will go on my own.
I have already checked out the ferries between the islands and it wont be that difficult to book. I won't book a ferry back to UK as I don't want to have a deadline to meet. Just go with the flow.
Milage will be about 3500 miles, not including running around visiting places.
That looks an absolute blinding adventure. You're so lucky, I had to fight tooth and nail to get a weeks tour of Scotland approved by the other half.
Six weeks....I can only dream of such a trip. :mfr_lol:

I think your scared of going 'under' or 'over' water ! :mfr_lol:
I think that looks a fantastic trip Debs, and I take my hat off to you for organising and planning such a trip.
A trip I could quite easily do, but not in 6 weeks.....3 weeks would be enough for me as I don't like staying in one place too long.....
Hope it happens for you.....
Looks like a great trip. Make sure you do a ride report on here with plenty of pics.
Always fancied a trip to Italy myself, been in the works for yonks (http://goo.gl/maps/dHfby).
hi debs.
good luck with your trip i wish i could come along with you but sadley not :lipsrsealed: ive done italy and swiss etc in 2007 .

You must have a excellent employer to allow time off like that, my lot would go bonkers.

I think 6 weeks is good if you can manage it as although I like riding my bike I enjoy sucking up the local culture and YES to those who've met me the local wine food lol
Debs if possible 12 weeks would be ideal taking in the Southern European summer

If you want to keep your cost down try wild camping (http://adventurevagabond.com/2013/12/20/wild-camping/) and even better, if you want to meet other travellers/locals (even bikers) have a look at couchsurfer (https://www.couchsurfing.org/) and/or a good hostel (http://adventurevagabond.com/2013/03/16/my-top-5-hostels/).
Thank you Stephen..
Im not one for using hostels or peoples couches.. I would rather be outside in the wilds...
The only problem would be taking the GTR off road to find a nice secluded place to camp.

LOL, it's only called couchsurfer... most people have guest bedrooms (some with ensuite facilities) and many hosts will take you around all the best local hot spots off the tourist trail. There is quite a big motorcycle group within the couchsurfer community too.
I know what you mean about taking the GTR off road but not all wild camp spots need a dirt bike. A lot of great wild camp spots I've used could have been accessed on my GTR. I'm sure whatever you decide you'll have a great time.
Im doing a loop of france in a couple of weeks, spending a couple of days in Nice and Monaco......If theres anything I find interesting apart from roads for you to see Debs, I'll let you know....
Hi Debs,
Looks like a great adventure, on the way back do you "need" to do Toulouse etc? As I would suggest you take " Route Napolean" from Monaco to Grenoble a great motorcycling route and then pick up your route at Poitiers, do not miss Tours, I was there last week, beautifully clean, an arrow straight 3 mile High St/ tramway, I couldn't stop over as was bashing down to Southern Spain, but somewhere I will go back to on another trip.
Enjoy your trip

Toulouse is on the way down..
The route from Oradou-sur-Glane to Nice may change as the time gets nearer.. All depends what routes others can suggest..
Can you show me on google maps the route you mean.
Agreed - Route Napoleon is a must
Amended route to take in Route Napolean.

Hi Debs,
You won't regret it, I don't know if you have a Go-pro or similar but you will get great footage, the roads and the scenery are magnificent. That can sometimes be my near downfall, making " good progress" along fantastic roads but wanting to take in the scenery as well.
Regards Coman
Hi Debs
The Tarn Gorge is not far off your route and is very beautiful

I have a Drift Ghost HD to capture all my adventures.

I had a look for that and I will save that for another day. Maybe with Rusty in 2017
On the outward journey, consider the B500 from BadenBaden south. Good hotel near there is Hotel Ochsen http://www.ochsen-kork.de/ the owner Armin, is brilliant and very pro-bike. Good food, good beer!
Also looking at the way you're heading, another good stop is Fussen on German/Austrian border. The Neuschwannstein Koenigschloss is here and worth a look. http://hotel-huberhof.com/index.php/de/ is on the outskirts and is excellent. The food is so good that the locals travel in to eat there. The other hotel I use is a bit more basic but good and is in the centre of the town http://www.brauereigasthof-braeustueberl.de/

Im not going that way. Im going down France first.
If you can avoid Lyon.
It's a big city built into several river valleys and the roads are a mess.
Traffic jams are guaranteed any time between 05:00 and 21:00.
If you can work the Stevio Pass into the trip that's a beautiful part of north Italy with a scary road!!
After riding that you'll have had your workout for the day.
