Post by: Kimble38 on March 29, 2014, 03:56:14 AM
I'm going to Germay in early May on a bike trip and i've decided to invest in a new jacket and pants.  Any advice would be greatly apreciated

I tried the ruckka jacket on at infinity at York but found it did not fit me ,and felt to bulky , tried on the dainese and felt a lot better fit , purchased it from motorcard  and  the fit and quailty is superb ,feels really nice to wear , have not tested the waterproof element yet ,but are doing a few days in Scotland soon so it should get tested, had furygan two piece before costing over £500 and in Heavy rain the water got in around the stomach area , I think a jacket with a long cut is best ,  on a cheaper budget the rst paragon gets a good right up , but the dainese and ruckka is top gear , just shop around for the best price , I got the jacket ,trousers ,and alpine style water proof boots for £800 , which is a massive saving on prices over. Here ,balance it out over the Next 10 years use and it's not to dear, plus having the right gear makes or breaks a trip. :biker3:

I'm on Dainese stuff at the moment.. had a few pairs of 'waterproof' trousers from Dainese, and every one leaked in the pockets in heavy rain... so I've kind of given up with my expectations.... Will be wearing a pair of non-waterproof  ( but very comfortable) BMW City trousers on my travels this year, coupled with a Dainese jacket, and a good pair of overtrousers in the panniers

The Rukka stuff is brilliant, but the Hein Gericke stuff I had was top as well

It makes you wonder if they test any of this gear in the rain , when I had the problem of rain seeping up and getting under the jacket ,when I complained they just said we have never heard of that before ,also if Bryn has had pockets leaking then you think that they would fix that , if this latest gear does not work I shall just use my 1 piece £60 rst rain suit 100 percent waterproof , just a pain to get on and off  :biker3:

I've used Richa stuff for years.

Currently have a Spirit jacket and several years old Millenium trousers.

Spidi H20 Out Jacket, berik trousers, had jacket for 10 years and trousers for 2 and nearly been wet yet despite being tested in Scotland, although when these and my leathers are through it'll be Rukka for me as that should see me out.

Although Rukka can be very expensive I think it's a good example of you get what you pay for.

Nightrider,

What Dainese kit did you go for? Was it the Stradon? Motocard is by far the cheapest site to get gear and free delivery too. Very impressed with their pricing and the gear is shipped from their warehouse in Spain so no extra VAT costs  How did you fair out with the sizing? Looking at the review on youtube it says that the Stradon is about half a size larger so the 56 would really be a 57. It looks like a great bit of kit

I got the stradon, I normally fit a 54 in the trousers made the mistake of getting a 54 ,to big , sold them on ebay for what I paid ,then reordered a 52 which was a perfect fit , jacket I got in a 52 which is what I normally are ,it's top quailty stuff ,am well pleased , the only thing is that to send it back is expensive  so make sure you get the right size , but pricewise it's great ,  :biker3:

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think i'll go the route of the Dainese Stradon as it seems to be a great piece of kit at a very good price. The Rukka is just that bit too expensive for the mileage that I do

Dainese and alpine star are good kit had em for more years than i care to remember, but i have recently had Kawasaki kit and it is amazing, got to say it is comparable if not better than dainese and A/S. Been out in monsoon weather and still bone dry, and in baking hot weather still nice and cool, worth a look.

Zedmeister,
Which Kawasaki Kit did you get? Is it the Stelvio or is it the new Ventoux? I've tried to find reviews of the new Ventoux jacket and pants but can't find any anywhere  There is a deal on the Ventoux jacket and pants at the moment and it comes in a lot cheaper than the Dainese kit.

Kimble - i have the stelvio, which has been superseeded by the ventoux, i have not seen any reviews either, but i will put money on it that it is a cracking piece of kit. Why dont you ask MR K who may have them in stock, hopefully there may be a dealer near to you.

Sorry for the late reply

Really pleased with mine, they are a lot cooler in warm weather  than cordura , but when it is cool they don't seem to let the wind through. Got mine pre-loved a couple of years back, and now got a pair for the Mrs. as well... we're going to keep a pair of waterproof ovetrousers in the top box for rain

Another good thing about them... take the armour out and bung them in the washing machine
