Well it looks like the time has come to get a new rear tyre. Just had a search round the net and came across this site http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/motorbike-tyres/michelin/pilot-road-4-gt/190-55-zr17-75w-267359. The prices look good, has anyone used them before?

"Ok so following on from my post "New Tyres at the right price ...but a little hassle" here is a word of warning, I went to get the tyres fitted today to be told that the front was within 2wks of its 5yr shelf life (the fitter and trusted biker said there is no way he would fit one of that age) and the rear would not balance (it was out 201g!) so deemed to be a tyre fault. I contacted Tyreleader and they have said the front tyre is a 2009 and is kept in a condition that is as good as new and they cannot replace it. And the rear cannot be replaced because it has been fitted !
Expensive Lesson Learned ! AVOID"
This is the latest
"Quick Update. (I am targeting the faulty tyre that will not balance as I think I have more chance of a refund on this)
So they were ignoring my emails until I sent a recorded delivery letter, then I got an email (edited)
Them: "May I suggest you ask the garage to dismount the tyre and try to move it in relation to the wheel. It is quite possible that the heavier point of the wheel coincide with the heavier point of the tyre, making it nearly impossible to balance."
Me: Done That! (or words to that effect)
Them: OK we will pick it up and send it to the manufacturer for checks which will take weeks, do you want us do to that?
So I called UK European Consumer Centre ( http://www.ukecc.net/) who were very helpful.
I have sent them the following email back
I have again sought some professional advice.
1) The sales of goods act states that faulty goods should be refunded or replaced 'within a reasonable time but without causing significant inconvenience'.
2) If the goods are faulty then the onus is on the supplier (ie Tyreleader) not the Manufacture
3) The burden of proof is with Tyreleader.
So from 1 above I requests an immediate refund as Tyreleader have not responded in "reasonable time" and I have been caused "significant inconvenience" - I have had to go to a reputable tyre supplier and pay to have the faulty tyre fitted and then removed at my cost. I have also had to have a new tyre fitted so as I can use the vehicle.
I am happy for you to collect the tyre, but waiting "weeks before I get an answer" contravenes consumer law .(reasonable time)
I expect to have a refund within 1wk
Please advise your course of action so I can update my advisors.
I will keep folk posted "
Cheers Ant, it did look too good to be true. The age thing shouldn't be an issue with a PR4, but it could well be a "second" tyre with a slight fault. Think I'll pay the extra from a trusted source, thanks for the reply.
If they cost mor than £100 and he paid by Credit Card, I'd get the CC company involved. They tend to be ruthless
I just noticed that they are in Germany, which makes things a little more difficult if there is a problem with the tyres. I don't think its worth the hassle
I always use Universal Tyres to supply & fit. Never trusted online for tyres.

He has done, awaiting the outcome.....probably be a charge back or something.
Shaggs, I looked at that site myself and also some of their feedback. It looked fairly decent and if I'd gone for the option of having the PR 4s independently fitted I'd have bought them from there. As they are new tyres it's very unlikely they would be dodgy. Factor in the price of having them fitted and see how much you save.
Oh decisions decisions. I have decided to email them on the age and quality of the tyres, and see what they have to say.

Age shouldn't be an issue as PR4's have only just been released.
I bought Pirelli from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271374423350?var=570253041344&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Give them a call for a better deal than ebay price I didn't use fitting service.

did they reply? i too googled pr4 gt and tyreleader came up and quite cheap too.
i also cant see these tyres being on the shelf for a long time as they are relatively new but if a company is prepared to sell borderline out of date tyres it makes you wonder what else they will sell you without telling you.
Yes I got a reply stating that the tyres were new and perfect. I found a company called mytyres on ebay that had some unfavourable reviews too. I think they are also owned by the same parent company to the original post.
Well I decided to try them as I thought I'd have ebay, paypal, and the credit card company to fall back on if anything went wrong, and with the PR4 being a new tyre they're unlikely to be old stock.
Well I can only speak of my own experience - they supplied a tracking number and a delivery date. The tyre turned up at the earliest estimated delivery date, was in its original packaging, and was perfect.
......... only problem was ......... I ordered the wrong profile  what a dick! I'll send it back next week for a 50 profile instead of a 55. Think I must've been thinking of the bloody car tyres profile at the time of ordering. The tyre wall of the PR4 GT does feel stiffer than the PR3, so should be better when fully loaded.
dont some people run 55's?
and is there a 73 and a 75 load?
or was that the angel?

Same country  https://www.delti.com/english/uns.html (https://www.delti.com/english/uns.html)
Hi Al, yeah I believe some people do run a 55, but will stick to the 50 as I would think there's a lot of experts at Kawasaki that put a lot of time and effort into researching the correct profile, and I will bow to their superior knowledge. The tyre is being collected over next couple of days for a full refund, and I've ordered the correct tyre off them this time! Good service.
Glad you getting sorted,,
Its a shame Kawasaki can't apply the same " time and effort into researching " stuff that doesn't corrode , flake, warp or mist up in less than a year
Lol..... or Run out of battery life..... Spoke to Kawasaki today as the rear TPS sensor packed up about 3 months ago. I have a 10 plate bike and asked them if they honoured the warranty on the TPS as I said others on the forum have had theirs covered.
He basically said no due to the bike having 23,000 on the clock, the fact that I didn't give them or a dealer wads of cash as I didn't buy it new, (it was a private second hand purchase), and because I don't line the Kwak dealers pockets with cash during the year as I service the bike myself. He also said it depended on how the bike was used, whatever that means!
It seems that they will pay some of the costs if you're a good customer of a dealer reading between the lines.
Oh well, time for the battery mod
is refitting the tyre an issue due to the tp sensors? the local not very techy garage up the road can fit and balance tryes but is fitting them a specialist operation?
also i ordered from tyreleader as per the original poster
ordered and paid for on monday evening 24/3
got confirmation email straight away and then next morning at 7am got details of delivery.(which were not availablle yet!!) 25/3
then got tracking numbers yesterday 27/3
and being delivered today as according to tracking its on a van on route. 28/3
so not the quickest if you are in a rush etc but for 128 quid for a rear pr4 gt its got to be worth the wait as the cheapest elsewhere on the net was 148 quid.
and locally 180 quid fitted !!
Not specialist.
Tell them that there is a tyre sensor at the valve. That's all they need to know
And then watch them like a hawk when they break the bead. If they are going anywhere near the valve, stop them.
Same with when they put the bar in to lift the tyre off the rim. Anywhere near the valve, stop them.
I've stopped using one garage for my tyre change precisely for this reason. Informed them about the sensor and then had to run out of the waiting area as he was about to destroy the TPS. Thought he might have got it, but then proceeded to make the same mistake with the other wheel.
cheers kwik
i think i will go to the big bike shop as my mate is a bit rough and ready
The thing is, if you get the tyres through your kwack dealer and they break the easily breakable TPSs fitting the tyres, they will make good. If your 'other' tyre fitted :censored:ks up, they would probably put up resistance to lashing out for an expensive TPS. I worked out it cost me about £30 extra getting both my tyres replaced and fitted by my local Kawasaki dealer. .. But I slept easier. :sleep1:
tyre arrived just now and i will go main dealer
