I've searched but not found anything, so here goes:
When on main beam the blue indicator light in the dash is so bright it rivals the headlights. Has anyone found a way to dim it, other than a bit of tape over it?
My Pan was just the same. Why do the manufacturers think I need a beacon to tell me when I'm on main beam when there's 2 x 60w of light in front of me. Oh, of course, it's so you can see the warning light during the daytime! Do they think no-one actually rides at night?
got to agree it's really bright and if there is a solution I'd like to know too...
:ohplease: :ohplease:
small smiley sticker over it. walla.
.
Apart from the sticker option would be nice....

Well I just had a look in the service manual, and no simple bulb change solution. Looks like it's a LED built into the panel. May see one of my mates who has a printing firm and ask if a semi-transparent sticker can be made to put over it.
Hi
Its on my to-do list this week to pull mine apart and find a solution to this.
Assuming its fairly easy to get at it the dimming is easy enough
Richard
how about a blob of black nail varnish, one coat is actualy translucent or a small disc of window tint film on the perspex.
Is it really so bright that you find it a distraction?
It is, certainly much brighter than my wing was. I find it an irritant that makes me use the low beam in preference.

I find it causes unwanted reflections from the screen / visor / pin-lock / glasses its at least 50% to bright imo
Interesting comments as this is the first time to my knowledge that anyone has ever raised the brightness of the display as being a concern. Personally then what I would do if the bulb is not easily accessible is to place over it a precise sized piece of diffused transparent film and this will soften its intensity.
Strangely enough, I have the same complaint. I rode home late one night a few months ago, and found the indicator light far too bright, especially on un-lit roads out in the sticks.
However as I hardly ride at night now, I promptly forgot to do anything about it. I had thought of a small piece of clear plastic film as a first attempt.
Found this thread on USA forum for GTR 1000 but it might give you a few pointers, changing dial LED colour seems to be another Go Faster mod :-)

Me again, job done, took a load of pics, will post them after manufacturing some dinner.

A. Remove screen: -
2 allen key screw each side to remove the black plastic bits
1 larger allen screw screw underneath
B. Remove instrument panel cover: -
2 allen key screws at the base
2 plastic rivets at the top, push the centre, then pull the rivet out
Remove the top of the cover first, you have to lever the panels above up a bit, then lift up to unhook the base
C. Remove instrument panel: -
Pull the rubber cover over the electric plug back, press the release clip and unplug
The panel is held in by 3 8mm nuts and big washers, 1 at the top and two lower down each side, the one under the socket is a fiddle
undo all 3 without losing the washers!
The panel is now free and will lift off
Remove the thin foam padding on the back - don't forget to put it back later!
D. Strip instrument panel: -
Take back cover off - with the panel face down on a soft cloth remove all the Philips head screws, remove cover
Undo all the small Philips head screws holding the circuit board in, they are all identified with a white circle around them. The lower
left hand screw is longer than the others, ensure it goes back in the same hole!
Remove the circuit board, turn it over and place on your soft cloth
Remove the front cover, it just lifts off
Remove the right hand warning light lens, it is held on 3 white plastic pegs, and with a cautious bit of levering around the edge with
a blade it will slide up and off
Now you can see the white LED in the recess, I just blacked it out with a permanent marker, this will still let some light through
As they say in all the best manuals, reverse instructions to re-assemble!
Pictures show the various stages, and the end result. As you can see the head beam light is now dim compared to the neutral light.

Great stuff Richard
Seeing it apart I think the circle of window tint applied from the OUTSIDE will be my remedy

Glad it went ok.
I'm going to try some blue painter's tape and see how that works.
