Title: Head bearings
Post by: Kall1400 on March 08, 2014, 09:32:54 PM
Got what i think is a head bearing problem.
Feel it knocking when applying the breaks or on undulating ground (bumps for you Tugg).

Can they be tightened? Or is it a replace?

Noticed it today while out,  i will be investigating tomorrow.

Are you sure it's not just your pad pins which need copper slipping? I've had the same pulsating sensation with my GTR and it was a lack of lube on the callipers.

Would it get worse?

Mine has got a lot worse since it first started, to the point where i am reluctant to ride it until it's fixed.. I have lifted the front wheel and pulled and pushed, but it doesn't seem to knock or move. But then i apply end the front break and rocked it while i had my finger on the head and stem top, i could feel a slight movement...

Kall,

I have had these symptoms before, and it was always the front wheel bearings at fault. They only seem to last 20k miles on my bike.

My head bearings by comparison, are still fine after 50k miles.

See if you have any wheel bearing play.

Martin.

I'd agree with Martin. Check for play in the wheel bearings
