Post by: Gas Man on April 18, 2011, 05:39:36 PM
Been flitting between the garden and garage  most this afternoon tinkering around with patio doors open and the DAB radio blaring out on Absolute Rock 8) if I had any hair left I'd have been head bangin  ::) :D

Just wondered what music taste we all have??

80's stuff for me, and late 70's, Disco, New Romantic, Funk, American 'Soft Rock' (Steeley Dan, Foreignor, Boston etc), modern stuff like Gaga, but not rap crap - why oh why do they spoil good songs with a load of non-rhyming shouting (that said, I like Black Eye Peas), Christine Aguilera, Pink, then there's Neil Diamond, Queen, 'Rat Pack' music - Oh bugger it, I like most music!!

You can argue all you like and it doesn't matter whether it is rock, pop, motown, folk, blues, dance, garage, classical or anything else there is only one type of music that beats everything else hands down............

Anything from amazulu to zig zig sputnik and who knows what in between, if I put my ipod on random it frightens sometimes with the eclectic mix of tunes that are on there

I like all sorts personally from progressive rock to motown but its more a case of if I like what I hear then it don't matter what style or genre it is. The stuff I can't handle is rap crap and thrash metal. its good to see we're a diverse bunch.

Oooh Jeez......thats a tuffy....... lots and lots of rock & alternative rock (Lost Prophets, 30 Seconds to Mars, Avenged Sevenfold, Foo Fighters)...although in my yoof it was Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Dio, Maiden, Bon Jovi, Led Zep etc etc etc. But i have to admit you can't go wrong with the Rat Pack & some big band Jazz. I'll listen to most stuff...but my riding music playlist is mainly Rock ;D

Planet Rock is good as is Absolute Rock, but my favourite is
http://death.fm (http://death.fm) WARNING! Not for the faint of heart.

My taste ranges from Genesis & Pink Floyd thru Hawkwind, Rush, some Punk and NWOBHM to Fear Factory, Nile and Melechesh.
I even enjoy some Blast Metal and Hardcore (think early Napalm Death) if I'm in the mood.
I also have a small collection of Classical, a couple of jazz CD's and one or 2 "pop" CD's.

Our music collection is quite eclectic as we like most types of music apart from thrash metal, rap and jazz. I can't stand jazz which always sounds to me like the musicians are playing different tunes and if there's a singer (s)he's singing something completely different. I can't say I much like 'singers' who growl rather than sing either but I suspect that's an age thing.

I've been scrobbling the music we listen to at home to Last.FM since October 2005 so you can get a good idea of what we listen to here - http://www.last.fm/user/kweller (http://www.last.fm/user/kweller). Doing so has helped me discover all sorts of bands I'd never heard of and now really like.

I think your  music taste says a lot about a person so there 2 reasons I started this thread, 1 to get ametal picture of you all and 2 to get an idea if the GTR owner was a certain type.
Im glad to see as I thought that GTR owners are a mixed lot rather than a type as such. The mental pic of us all meeting up would be interesting  :o

Yep I agree with you on that one Gasssy. Looking back there have been certain tunes that have defined moments in my life, some i cherish the memories of and some rather horrific ones. I find it great that you can hear a song and straight away it can transport you back to a point in time, in the case of some 60's music I am transported back to my Mums kitchen smelling the food she was prepairing. I would say that all my life music in one form or another has always been with me , to my utter pride and joy my son was also bitten by the big and has become an amazing guitarist, saxaphone player, drummer, and keyboard player, done a degree in music production and is constantly fiddling with his apple mac home studio software. For my birthday last year he wrote in his card to me a big thankyou for being the person that has inspired him to follow a musical path. I don't normally cry too much but I must admit to having a lump in me throat.
