Title: ABS light - a bit different to the norm?
Post by: jonkawasaki on February 28, 2014, 10:39:41 AM
Morning folks

I am becoming acutely aware of the number of topics I'm starting and most of them about petty things, but at least it makes interesting reading!!

Owned my GTR for a couple of weeks now and up until yesterday I have never seen the ABS light come on ... whether it be under braking, starting up etc.

However the last few occasions I have turned the ignition on the ABS light has been on solid on (along with the usual flashing traction control light).  Both lights go out shortly after I move off.

Normally the ABS light is never on, not even at start up.  The only light that is normally on (flashing) is the traction control light until I move off.

I have not changed the wheel, or fiddled with the sensor....seems a little odd.

What's the verdict?

Firstly one of the purposes of this forum is for us all to share info and throw ideas at each other. So don't think for one minute that any of your questions are petty, I assure you they are not.

The abs light should and will be displayed upon starting the bike, this is perfectly normal. It will disappear once you set off and reach a certain speed, I can't recall specifically what that is but 6mph seems to be at the forefront of my mind.

Super! Just seems a little odd it didn't do this before!  I'm beginning to realise that my old bike (Suzuki DL650) was a bit of a dinosaur compared to the clever GTR! Not used to all the electric gizmos!

Also worth turning ignition on and letting the dials do there dance and all the lights do their thing BEFORE thumbing the starter button.
It would be possible to start the engine before all the sensor thingys have checked in with the brain,

Good point. I always try to let it finish doing so but maybe I've been a bit hasty the last few occasions.
