Title: preparing bodywork advice
Post by: viper on February 26, 2014, 07:46:46 PM
As ive started to acquire spare panels for my Go Green project im in need of some advice on types of fillers to use.

Ive got a tank that requires a very shallow dent to be filled, its one of those dents thats just visable but needs dealing with, what filler to use? ive used knifing putty in the past but it never seemed to harden. Am I sanding back to the metal first before applying filler?

Some of the plastic parts require a very small amount of filling to some deep scratches , again what filler?

what primer should I use to protect the area as these parts are all being stored until I acquire everything which could take some time!

thanks guys

Viper, I'll have a word with my Brother in Law if you wish, he's a panel beater, done it for years and is considered to be the best at the company he works at. He should be able to answer all your questions.

This was the first green GTR I saw back in 2007.
Not to my taste.

Apart from the glove box and the horrible looking standard exhaust I actually quite like that colour.

I think it ended up being 2 quarts...  :undecided:

It was a lot of coats, if I recall correctly something like the below:
1 coat sealer
2 coats primer
1 coat white
3 coats green
2 coats pearl
3 coats clear

I'd take what a rabbit says with a pinch of salt, or alternatively I'd take the rabbit with a pinch of salt and maybe a bit of garlic.  :whistling:

Have you priced those other 2 pieces new from your dealer VP? I think those are both pretty inexpensive pieces??  :undecided:
