Title: Neutral light sensor
Post by: Simmo on February 21, 2014, 09:34:34 AM
I've had a problem over the last couple of days with the neutral light flashing on and off when the engine is running. When I pull onto my drive at home and kick the side stand down with the bike in neutral the engine cuts and wont start again until the side stand is up.
I know this is a safety feature for when the bike is in gear but its happening in neutral also.
Has anybody had a similar problem. Not sure if its down to a faulty side stand switch or if there is a separate neutral sensor on the bike.
Does anybody know if there is a separate neutral sensor and if so where it is.

Thanx.

Neutral switch and gear position switch are one and the same, according to the manual. Middle right on the electrical schematic below, and part number 20 on the photo.

It sounds like the neutral position in the switch is failing. No idea of the fix I'm afraid, but if it were me, I would be checking the wiring from part #20 to see if there are any breaks.

Most likely to be a faulty switch I think

Thanx for the replies.

Cheers for the wiring diagram martin. Now I know where the gear position sensor is i'll get the old spanners out. I think I will probably have to change the sensor.

Unfortunately sensor was knackered. Had to replace it. Lined dealer's pocket with another 100 quid. Didn't want to chance a second hand sensor. All sorted now.
