We saw this film last night....if you haven't, then I recommend that you do, its based on a true story and is quite remarkable
That's good news as it's on my list for next week of "Things to do" ....
My dad went to see it a few weeks ago and he too really enjoyed it.
The book is very good.
Mrs DB's grandfather, and his brother, were Japanese PoW's on the Burma railway. Like many soldiers from this part of the country [ both the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk regiments had troops in Singapore when it surrendered] he was scarred by his experiences, and only very late in life did he talk about some of the less horrific events. Despite all that, he lived till he was 99 years old, and did ride a Honda in the 1960's. He could never bring himself to eat rice though !
I read the book a long time ago. I've not been to see the film yet. I've just finished a book by Alistair Urquhart called the forgotten Highlander. He was on the death railway, the Hell ships, torpedoed, re captured and taken to Japan, get this, 10 miles from the second atom bomb. I have to admit, after reading what the Japanese done to the POW's I was on bike trader ready to flog the GTR and buy the new Trophy. I've calmed down now.
All the best lads, Donald
