I've corrected it now.. :whistling: :mfr_lol:
I got confused because there are a lot of 100 yr Anniversaries happening this year.
I visited on my return trip to morocco. Well worth the visit even if it is well isolated from other areas of interest. I would time the visit ona weekday - late afternoon. I had the streets entirely to myself - a very eerie experience and one I will never forget.
Just go and experience it!

My brothers in laws live just south of Martel in the Lot region. Just down the road from this atrocity . They have been in the area for many years and this on the bucket list to visit. They called in as any tourist with an interest in modern history would do on the way back from business up north . The place shocked them to the core. They knew what to expect but it still shocked then. The drive home took 2 hours in silence.
When would you like to go Miss Debs ?
I want to go for the anniversary.
How long are you planning on going for ?
Went there in '10, on the way back from Tolouse.
People talking/chatting on the way in.
Everyone silent on the way out.
Suprised how big the town was, had a tram system as well.
A lot of the headstones and tombs had the same date on them, very sobering visit.
Not too many German number plates in the Car Park either.....
For those of us of a certain age, who grew up watching the weekly episodes of 'World at War' in the early seventies, and remember the voice of Laurence Olivier
"Down this road, on a summer day in 1944, the soldiers came. Nobody lives here now. They stayed only a few hours. When they had gone, a community which had lived for a thousand years was dead. This is Oradour sur Glane."
My father did not force me to watch the series, he implied that it was required viewing, and I was immersed in every episode.
Likewise, I implied to my son that 'The Nazis, a warning from history' was required viewing.

:agree: :goodpost:
Deeply distressing, and a reminder of how humans can and have behaved.
It's only right that we should remember and learn from such atrocities
Me and Julie went last July, it was poignant, very memorable and very very sad but I'm so glad we went, be sure to visit the museum if you go.
Oh yes the nearby roads are ace !
