Title: Dambusters tour
Post by: viper on January 11, 2014, 02:52:41 AM
We are planning to go over to the Alps this year and will probably take the hull ferry to rotterdam , cross into germany and down through bavaria. As we will be going via Dortmund area I thought It would be a good time to take in some or all 3 of the dams. Who's been and which ones are worth a visit . Are we just going to see a brick wall or are there visitor centres and nice village/country side .

thanks

Somewhere everyone should visit... When I first got there in 2004 it was the week after Poland joined the EU so tourism was in its infancy....and the place was not geared up like it is now... Visited again and took SWMBO on another bike trip in 2010 and it was a lot busier...

Stayed both times in the centre of Krakow.. Hotel Royal... Handy for sightseeing and exploring

A friend of SWMBO lost most of his family to the camp.........................he told us that all those shoes did it to him when we were enjoying a bbq together....................at the time you could tell he was very moved.........................so when Deb posted her pics it really brought the horror home

Ferrari tours are only open to Ferrari owners, but Lamborghini is open to the public and Ducati is in that area too.

I went to the 40th anniversary meet for the Z1 at Edersee last year.
The Eder dam is well worth a visit, and has cafes and stuff up there, and in the village of Eder is a small museum just for the raid. It surprised me with it's total neutrality over the attack, featuring both sides with equal dignity. From the village it is a short walk, about 20 minutes, up to the dam itself, which still bears the scars of the attack and the subsequent repair.
Museum location Here (https://plus.google.com/117259548006305378149/about?gl=uk&hl=en#117259548006305378149/about)

There is a small bikers cafe which had some portacabin type bunk house accomodation [ not sure how private these were, as I camped], although there were hotels and B&B in the village. http://zuendstoff-edersee.de/
