Title: St Petersburg Russia ....
Post by: Rusty on January 06, 2014, 10:01:32 PM
All booked up for a 3 day short break end of April with another couple.... sadly not on a bike but it's a pretty long way ( 1300 miles in a straight line ! ) Nice hotel etc slap bang in the middle ... anyone been ?
I love all this new stuff .. going somewhere that I have never been close to before .. lots of history, heritage, museums etc but also some great natural scenery to see ... and the language ? Oh my ! That's a bit different to my school boy French that I can get away with !
Hope the weather will be a little warmer than it is now !

Very pretty, lots of people speak English, lots of history, you'll be spoilt for choice.
I went back in the USSR era and it was nice in Leningrad.
Temps are normally in the -5 to +15C range in April.

Have fun!

добрый день.

Lived a few months in ex-ussr from  october till end of december... (my kid is from there...) going from +15° to -30°C...
Guess april is already a lot better:-)

Good memories... in those months met a few great russian people... (they like europeans a lot, they wanted to be a part of europe...)
99,5% couldn,t understand other languages but russian,  very few had learned ...german. ,  but it is ten years ago and in 3 cities in kazahkstan...  maybe they can listen and see more english music and movies now...:-)

Because we expected very cold weather in autumn we had lot of clothes ,  so -30°C was not bad...untill one day it was windy... brrrrr

Didn,t see one expensive bike there, only few very old ones...

Good luck and be carefull (like in most of the big cities:-) )
