Got my GTR out of the garage on Thursday. Dead. Had ridden it home the night before, washed it with bucket and sponge. No pressure hose or anything.
Turns over but won't catch. Error reading says FI Fuel Injection.
Colchester Kawasaki took it away scratching their head.
Any ideas ladies/Gents.
Puzzled from Essex !
Not dead, just sleeping!
wow !im sorry to hear that, please keep us all posted on what it is. I live in fear of the f1 error, especially when you get a flash of it when you are far from home
Riding it home the night before, did the F1 error just "flash" up or did it stay on for about 3 seconds - it takes this long to latch onto the ECU as a bona fide event code - I get the F1 now and again after the Remus was fitted but never died thank god!
Kawasaki tell me that it is a 'Cam shaft monitor sender unit' that has failed. Nothing to do with that flash of FI you can get when going along.
Needs a new unit. Bike won't do a thing with it busted.
Hmm. For my 20 month old GTR then I have only had replaced under warranty :- Discs, pads, exhaust tail pipe, rear suspension unit, tyre pressure senders, plastic dashboard surround, brake pipe clips and now Camshaft monitors. Total bill picked up by those nice guys at Kawasaki probably in the thousands.
Do I buy the extra years of warranty now being offered ?.
 Someone wasn't in a good mood when they built your GTR! The extended warranty is I think £395 (unless its gone up since last March). It is however for 2 years, I think it's a no brainer, you have to have it.
But you will have to pay Big K hundreds (£1000's) in scheduled servicing to maintain your warranty, trade it and get a newer one (with free warranty) or a Versys

+1 with Steve there ... Although my Gtr is now in other hands it had the extra 2 yr warranty and for just under £400 it is indeed " a no brainer " !

You don't have to pay Big K anything, you can do your own servicing provided it's to the recommended schedule and there is no problem, I did all my Triumph and when I had a claim there was no prob, and having spoken to two dealerships they also admitted if you keep to the schedule and use the correct parts etc your covered.

Well Done to BA for clarifying that matter ... There are still too many people out there believing that warranties will be void if their service book is not stamped up by the dealer ... Use genuine K parts or whatever make of bike you have, stick to the schedule like glue and all will be fine ... Neglect a motorbike at your peril !
The camshaft position sensor itself should not be all that expensive although added together with labor it might be more considerable.
Apparently, we (US) have very different warranty schedules and costs than elsewhere. We start out with a three- year, unlimited mileage warranty that comes with the bike at no extra charge. Then we can buy extended warranties in blocks of up to three years each at least twice and perhaps three times. There is a dealer here who sells these extended warranties far cheaper than most, and the current price is $339 for three years (sorry, I don't know what that is in GBP?). I am on my second extended warranty on a bike purchased new in '07; I only bought the warranties because they were not outrageous in price and there are things on this bike that are so expensive (KiPass ECU, main ECU, drive train assemblies, etc.) that one failure will be more expensive than than one or even both warranty extensions. So basically I intend to keep a warranty on the bike as long as I can and as long as it is available at that price.
I know your situation is different though and I would certainly not pay, for example, $1,000 for a two or even three year warranty extension.
Oh, and by the way: we can only extend the warranty while a warranty is already in force. Which means that if the warranty lapses even for a day, the bike is no longer eligible for any further warranty purchases. This is a significant consideration when buying a used C-14 on this side of the pond because if there is no warranty existing, none can be purchased ever again.

I missed out on this summer with my cam shaft sensor , a common fault apparently , so I had them both replaced and also Kawasaki software picked up historic faults with two other sensors so I had them done as well. Came in at £450
With regards to servicing again, i just did mine at the weekend, ok i do tend to change the fluids more that Mr K states but that's only because i can and want to, so all oils and filters changed, calipers cleaned out, bobbins cleaned and checked, bike fully cleaned from top to bottom took me approx 4 hours, and a lot less than Mr K would charge.
OK i cheated a bit having the plugs changed by Mr K as that looked a right sod of a job.
One happy bunny today.

just heard that head is off and things are a bit more serious than just a Cam Shaft sensor.
In Colchester Kawasaki we trust.....but I ain't getting her back for another week at least.
Loan bike made available...
Essex Boy
Well at least they are letting you have a set of wheels ..........
the plot thickens... Sounds like this is not yer normal FI error. What replacement toy did you get?
Hi Essex, did you get to the root of the problem or is the bike still off the road?
