Title: Pannier Retention Clips
Post by: Lonewolf on January 01, 2014, 06:17:28 PM
Another simple method to prevent the panniers/saddlebags falling off on very bumpy terrain. Had these delivered yesterday, I was a bit sceptical as to how effective they would be but they are surprisingly good. The brackets do not budge, even when opening and closing the pannier lids, so they are not fiddly or awkward. You would only have to bother about them if you were to actually remove a pannier. The panniers are now as solid as a rock. The actual clips come rubber coated so are not exactly as they are in the ad.

when touring, I use a zip tie as insurance against the pannier coming off.

Does that actually prevent them coming off, or just catch them if they do?

not sure. None of my panniers have ever dared to come off.

ive done the MGvalerio mod, where you have holes drilled through and use allen keys covered with shrink wrap. I like this method as one has to unlock the case to remove the clip, this adds to the physical security of the case when left on overnight

Viper, same with these clips. Unless you physically unlock the handle and lift it you cannot remove the brackets. Thankfully I've never lost a pannier but I've started to become more paranoid especially on bumpy roads.

I lost the right hand pannier in October on that goat track called the M27. Over £800 to replace it.   :hammer: . Seems to me that for approx £20 to have peace of mind is a small price to pay. Have ordered.

a ziptie across from the pannier handle to the grab-bar will prevent said pannier from coming loose.
