I am not that happy with the way my GTR runs low down when commuting between 20mph and up to 50mph in either normal mode or economy, so I have emailed Geoff at Hilltop Motorcycles in Leicestershire who have been recommended by many people to book it in for a remap of the ECU.
It's done 13k and will report back after the deed has been done.
Alan
Geoff did mine for me last year... it'll make a change for him not to be doing GS's .... Just so you know him, here's his doppleganger

Did he do your GTR and if so how did it turn out?

Yes it was the GTR....only dyno'd after the remap though... 149 at the back wheel....flies pulled at the same time ...nice and turbine smooth.... Still good mpg as well. ( remus Okami fitted too)
Booked in at Hilltop for next Tuesday morning, can't wait for them to work there magic.
Alan
Yeah, I know should ask the man himself, but, when Geoff does the remap and fly pulling business (ooh err missus) does it f**k up the TC?
I have a Delkevic pipe fitted, and I do notice a slight hesitancy on occasions, but can't complain about the (lack of?) power, of course it'd make for a great enhancement to have more grunt, but not at the expense of the arse end getting too frisky! and yeah, I do know the throttle goes both ways, but it's reassuring to have TC, especially with my shitty Avons
Can't see how it can affect the TC... the secondary butterflies just restrict the flow of air lower down the rev range, and open up as the rpm goes up..... I'm no expert but the difference is that it makes the engine produce more torque from lower down......
I had my Triumph Explorer re-mapped by Geoff... and it didn't affect the Traction Control
Don't the GTR have enough power for you Power rangers :mfr_lol:

It has plenty, but I want to map the system to give me the optimum acceleration and smoothness it currently does not have, it's got snatchy on the throttle and even though it's done 13k miles I want it spot on so the main man will get his hands on it and work his magic.
Alan
Quote from: BigAlan on December 11, 2013, 10:17:24 PMit's got snatchy on the throttle
Hi. mine was very snatchy too. The off-on approach of the throttle at small openings was very very irritating and you always tensed waiting for the inevitable surge as you cracked opened the throttle , just when you want the bike to be smooth and unbothered (eg , mid corner past the apex).
solved it by taking ALL the slack out of the throttle cables.
Don't bother with what the manual says (ie , that 2 mm slack) , just take ALL the slack out.
Now , zero to low throttle openings are silky smooth. Esp useful at corner exits.
and the secondary butterflies (according to the literature) are part of the GTR's repertoire of traction control interventions.
.
Ok so back from Hilltop Motorcycles after my re-map, so before any work was done my bike produced 126.14bhp at 8628 rpm with 87.33ft/lb at 6002 rpm.
After it's 151.48bhp at 8884rpm with 101ft/lb at 6183rpm..
It was running lean all up the rev range as well, now after Geoff has done his work I can honestly say it runs so much smoother right from pulling away, when going through the gears and *cough* at the higher end of the speed range! it has removed loads of vibrations I was having and feels like a different bike.
Ok at £360 for a couple of hours work you might say that's expensive but it has transformed the bike from one I was beginning not to like to one I am not selling.
If in doubt, do it.
Alan
Does he reflash the OEM ECU or is he programming a Power Commander?
25 RWBHP for 360 sounds a good deal to me You pay more than that just for a PC5, let alone setting it up

Everything is done by your original ECU, no power commander or any other extra aids, what i can say it has transformed the bike.
Alan
Had mine done ,fitted power commander , done on a rolling road , now has 155bhp. And 106 /1b. Now goes like it should ,,,,,,,
25 bhp is ALOT for just a remap.

And soooooo much smoother in general operation, perhaps Mr K might want to take note and look at how they setup the bike from new.
Alan
I have talked to Hilltop about doing my trike, but it wont go on his rolling road so he can only do it using gas analyser etc so not sure ....
Have you pulled the flies or did they tweak the setting they use?

Yes you have no chance of getting that on his system, i have not pulled the flies at all and Geoff simply remapped my ECU during four (i think) runs on the Dyno.
Alan
Do you need to inform your insurers about remapping?

God knows, but i wont, i reckon they have no chance of finding out anyways, they wont interrogate the ECU to check its not as factory reset even if they know what Kawasaki put in there in the first place.
Do it.

Technically speaking you must inform your insurers of any 'modification' failure to do so could invalidate your insurance

Modification, hmmm some would say i am only releasing whats there from the start and is unavailable due to Mr K's incompetence.
Alan
Is it really worth the money?
I thought the bike was perfect as it is

You most certainly do need to make your insurance company aware of the modification. It may be that they no longer wish to provide you with cover because of the modification but more likely than not they will simply charge you a higher premium.
The worst case scenario is that after an rtc your bike is recovered by the insurance company and examined by them or a collision investigation unit in more serious collisions. Any undeclared modifications will undoubtedly declare your policy of insurance null and void.

I cant imagine how fast the bike must be after a re-map if its considered too slow now!

It was never slow, but now the smoothness is simply stunning, right up from 1100rpm to whatever you want, I had a vibration at around 3.5k and what I would call hunting when doing 30mph which annoyed me but now, smooooooooth as silk.
Alan
I would be interested to see how much more the insurance would be.
Insurance companies check everything nowadays, esp in serious rtc.
Why take the chance? You only need some dumb :censored: run in to you and say you were speeding..
Better to be safe than sorry...

:agree: and any change to the original construction will be considered a modification, some insurance companies even consider that adding extra luggage, changing a screen etc., is a 'modification' and will ask "is this a performance enhancing modification"...so beware :nono:
I would declare any modification, and I have done so in the past, usually, as wolf says, a higher premium is applied

I have always been asked if the bike has any Performance Enhancing Modifications..
Not declaring modifications is insurance fraud. Simples
In the past I've been asked whether it makes more than 10%.... And had a few insurance companies refuse to quote or quote silly money on my ZX10R.
That's was dyo'd at 192 at the rear wheel, against a factory standard of 178...... (Exhaust, filter and pc5) So 25bhp extra is huge amounts. I would certainly re-think on advising insurance company.
Although if it's that quick you might see god first! ;-). Shame on you.... I wish I could get mine done! :-)
Where is Hilltop.... Is that Dorking?

Hey Al, don't let all this insurance chat spoil your revitalised bike, just get out there and enjoy

Great idea Debs
Ok after almost a month on the bike after the remap I have to say the smile on my face is getting bigger, this bike is now so smooth it's unreal, from any gear from any speed it's a different bike, I enjoyed it before, now it's like Santa has brought me a present.
Yes I read all the comments on insurance companies etc but I disregard them, in my mind it makes no difference to what they are insuring, it's a standard ECU just tuned in to what the bike SHOULD have been sent from the factory, in my case the mixture was to lean right through the rev range, that's incompetence so now the fuelling is spot on and it makes a hell of a difference.
If your considering it, do it, treat yourself.
Alan
Maybe YOU had better lead the summer Dales jolly up then Alan . The rest of us will struggle to keep up by the sound of it.
