Title: Engine / fairing guards
Post by: Ant on December 06, 2013, 08:02:18 PM
I will pop a picture up on here next week of the AC-LRP Engine / Fairing guard and Pannier protector for you to see.

Unfortunately production is on hold until the floods recede as far as powder coating goes, as the powder coaters are under 4 ft of water....and no apologies have yet been received from mother nature !!  :nono: :whistling:

Mate, sorry that you have been hit by the flooding

Thanks, it was all set up and ready to roll last Monday but 1mtr of sea water didn't agree with the machinery !!
Unfortunately the manufacturer is having to get new machinery - which takes time - so I have found another firm to take the job on.
Im going there Monday, so with a little luck I will post some pics next week and orders can be placed if people are happy with the look and price.

The main hiccup was powder coating the finished product, but after more research, a reasonably local firm has been found.

I have considered offering non powder coated bars as it could be easier for touching up those damaged areas in case of a drop, and also the possibility of a sleeve that is replaceable that slides over any damaged area.

UPDATE
Couple of pics of the AC-LRP Fairing guards. This is the prototype and they are designed to be fitted without removing the fairing.
No fairing modification required and the bars do not have to be removed to do routine maintenance.
Production will begin mid Jan now as everyones shutting down for Xmas.
A slight alteration to the rear guards may be in order, but only a fraction.
The pic of the bike on its side didn't come out all that well as I had to use the flash, but I can assure you nothing touched the floor except the bars.
Im pretty pleased with the outcome and a distance photo shot i did didn't show the bars very well as they blended in with the lower panel too well.
The bung you see in the shot is going to be smaller in diameter and re manufactured and is only there if the bike tries to topple right over ( which was tested ).
Drop me a PM if your interested and I will put you on the list. They will be cheaper than the MCs I was going to sell but a more accurate price will be posted shortly.
Thanks
Ant

you gonna need some 800 x 800 ( ish) pictures and possibly taken outside to be able to show off your hard work, i just cant really see that much from those.
It all looks promising and i will probably buy. I probably wouldnt want to be the first to buy and once an independant member has left a review on the quality, security and finish, they will fly !!

opinion qualified by the poor photos : the bike will need the pictured upper crash bungs (ala ProjektD) with these bars to prevent the bike ROLLING OVER.

You obviously didn't read my post Pistole, you are incorrect on both counts.
Not projektD and they are part of the kit. The bike doesn't topple over unless a lot of weight is applied to the bars in a downward motion.
Always best to read before commenting !

stupids me , sorry.

so your setup here requires BOTH crash bungs and bars ?

.
Title: Re: Engine / fairing guards
Post by: Ant on December 20, 2013, 06:10:27 AM
Yes, it is part of the set that is supplied but slightly smaller in diameter to prevent the bike from ( as you quite rightly said ) toppling over.
They fit in such a way that if you didn't require them they can be left off, but I can't see why someone would want to do this.

It was done like this to make it easier to fit and also to enable removal of the fairing for maintenance, and also to cut down on the amount of 'bar' thats seen at the front.......i know that a lot of bar didn't quite appeal to you either.

Sorry about the quality of the pics. These are prototypes before production run and any ' enhanced ' photo at this stage wouldn't make them look any better. It was very late and my photo skills aren't the best in the daylight !!

But like you say, I will get some of the full bike on the web site shortly ...

Hi Guys / Gals,

There is now a vid on youtube showing the dreaded 'bike drop' with the guards in place. JUST HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRiLiN7zZoE)   Enjoy and hope it never happens !!!

Several alterations have been made to take as much 'shock' away from the bike as possible and to make them lighter.

They should be ready to ship out in the next couple of weeks.

The pannier guard doesn't interfere with the pillion feet at all, access to the shock adjuster isn't affected either. They can be removed and the standard bolts put back in, in less than 5 mins.

The engine guards can be installed ( by me, as I've now done it several times ) in approx. 20 mins.
For the first time allow about 1 hour for the whole set.

I would recommend the fork sliders too for full protection ( very cheap ).

The first production run is set for 20 sets on Friday, so if you haven't PM d me and you are at least interested, do let me know as over half that amount is already spoken for and i may have to 'up' the order.

They will be no more than £385 for the whole set,   ( Upper crash Bungs, fairing guards, pannier guards, all hard wear, powder coated black, )  in case anyone is wondering.

Prices for   a/ just the front     b/ just the rear      c/ full set no bungs,    will be posted on the website shortly.

The first full set will be pictured on my bike next week, and staying on there !!!!

Thanks to everyone for being patient who's shown an interest and pre ordered -------- a discount still stands to those people.

Thanks
Ant

Hi Ant , impressive bike drop. Any chance of posting a good picture of them installed at a good angle, im struggling with the video as it vibrates a lot with the music for some reason.

How critical are the fairing bungs? not sure if I want them , id have a front set of bars and a rear set tho.
Title: Re: Engine / fairing guards
Post by: Ant on January 22, 2014, 08:38:32 PM
Vibrates ???   It was flipping cold  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Seriously though, that was shot off the phone as the other 2 times i tested I forgot to film.  As you can probably see I didn't hesitate in dropping it as I knew the outcome ----  no damage to the bike what so ever.

The upper bungs are there as a stop, because if the bike were to try and go top side for any reason, the only thing that touches the ground is the end of the mirror, which does actually fold in a few cms.... this is only with both wheels off the ground on its side. The bike naturally drops back to rest on the bars. In the vid, the bung didn't touch, it only touched when I forced the bike down via the handlebars.

Pics and close ups next week when they are powder coated.

thanks for that ant, yes i noticed that the bung didnt contact the floor.

If you dont mind me saying you do need to get some good quality photos and videos, that last pictures were quite poor and this video is not very good to see the detail, all us buyers have to go on is what you say about them plus what they look like , it will help a lot if you take the trouble to get the images good. maybe a friend with a resonable digi camera rather than the phone.
Title: Re: Engine / fairing guards
Post by: Ant on January 22, 2014, 09:30:09 PM
That will be done when powdered coated and in place on the bike, all complete.

Just showing the progress of the project and that they do what they are supposed to do. Which is more than you would get with ' other ' protection systems.

Anyway, if your still unsure after the pics have been posted, you will have to meet up with someone who s bought them for a 'live' view.........

Forgive me if I'm not on the current thread.  I'm new to the forum and just purchased a mint condition 2010 GTR1400. I've browsed previous threads of the USA deal falling through etc. I'm interested in buying Ant's equipment - both the front engine bars, and rear pannier bars.

Whats the current situation with supply/production/availability etc? How much for full set inc. forum discount and postage (I live in Southampton, UK)? Payment via PayPal?

Thanks Folks!

Sorry Alan,

Missed your post.    Prices will be updated on the Website over the weekend and if I get a clear bit of weather, to take some decent pics, they will be on there as well.

The Rears will be £124.99
The Fronts will be £245.99 without the sliders, £275.99 with the sliders, --------both prices are if bought on an individual basis.

If a set is purchased ( front and rear ) its about 8% cheaper, minus the small discount I promised.

Ant

The lowering kit was by ProjektD, I bought them s/h from Bondu, who used to be on the forum. They are not essential for use with Ant's crash bars, I had them fitted to help reduce aural buffeting from Mrs DB

They look awesome! Shame the front set are a few more pennies than the R&G ones, my poor piggy bank is on last reserves at the moment!   :help:

I appreciate the comments.

I'm not a salesman and should probably leave the marketing to someone like Charlie747, but.....

I havent priced these for a ' get rich quick ' scheme believe me,,,,, Margins are tight and prices are for 'sales eventually' .
I only looked at this as when I dropped my bike last year, to get everything in perfect nick again ( as it only JUST touched the ground due to very kind passes by, 2 in all , helping me right the bike ) it was going to cost £400.

Money I didn't want to throw at the bike only for it to possibly happen again. Its something you only think about after the event. I have now learnt ( after a pulled leg muscle ) that if the bike starts to go over - let it down gently - and get out the way. The bars can be touched up, or re powder coated for less than £40. Or flashed over with a touch up spray that I have found.

If like any other company, a group order was placed, then I can move on the price as my initial investment would be returned quicker. Not a massive difference but very close to the R&G stuff, but don't forget,,,,,

These don't have to be removed for maintenance.

If they do need to come off, the engine mounting bolt stays in place.

Can be removed in under 10 mins.

And have been tested by Marmite  :surrender:  Not something you see very often.....

Anyway, safe riding and if you have bought some, I hope you don't have to use them too often....
