Now I have more problems with Baby..
I went away to Paris for the weekend, and on the way there she developed a sound like a worn bearing. This only happened when I come off the power and in any gear. The further I went the worse it got.. I made it home yesterday and took her to Bournemouth Kawasaki.
I have been told that it could be either: a wheel bearing, drive shaft bearing OR something wrong with the drive at the engine end..
Tigg the mechanic said that they have no idea which it is until they dismantle her..
I don't think its a wheel bearing though...
They do have a 2010 Magnesium GTR with 16k on the clock for £7500.. Its so tempting as Baby has just passed 55560 miles...
Hmmmmmmmm
Best to get a considered opinion on what it is before making any rash decisions, it could be a wheel bearing which is easy enough, if it's more then time to decide what's best for your piece of mind and pocket.
Alan
Well baby has to be repaired anyway if I do decide to part ex her
Yeah I agree with Al Debs, wait till they give you an opinion, TBH it sounds more like a drive problem to me, and maybe, just maybe Baby is due to be re-homed, I reckon that if that's the case that your dealer should be able to look after you
Debs, joking apart, you've unfortunately had a few issues recently with 'baby' as you choose to call the GTR :nono: . As hard a decision as it is, perhaps it's time to let it go.
Just cut your losses, bite the bullet and kick that old GTR down the scrappers. :whistling:

'Baby' is special to me :mfr_lol: and how dare you even mention the scrappers.. :gun_bandana:

seniorminnion has his up for sale http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=3511.0
but I don't want the hassle of trying to sell mine, so it will be part ex when the time comes.
You know I was only joking.... :mfr_lol:
I'd get it diagnosed, but make the dealer aware that you are thinking of doing a px. Weigh up your options, but seriously have a look at trading her in.
sounds like a drive shaft bearing ,
It does not have to be repaired by kawsaki main dealer, you could get the parts and get a mobile or cheaper mechanic to do the work.
I guess we've all had bikes or cars like this though, where you wish you got rid the month before something went bang and cost 500 quid.
Its down to that fine line where you try to work out whether to trade it for something newer or hope it goes on for another 50000 miles trouble free.
Keep yer chin up Debs, it might not be as bad as you think, and you might just be having a bit of an unlucky run where bearings and bits and bobs are just wearing out at the same time. It might cost you a few hundred quid to sort out, but still might be cheaper than the depreciation on the newer bike.
Bike on center stand , any lateral movement with the rear wheel ?
Maybe rear wheel bearing. If its the main drive crown bearing , thats going to be expensive.
.
Seniorminnion's bike is GREEN Debs

I'd say that's expensive, I've seen new ones for a similar price. If you choose to PX I'd simply set my sights on anything 2010 +, lots of bargains out there.
My bevel gear bearing went last year.
Have a read http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,2144.msg29810.html#msg29810 (http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,2144.msg29810.html#msg29810)
Debs, sorry to hear about your further misfortune, A mate of mine has just swapped in his one owner, near mint, very low mileage GTR in for a new Triumph, it may be of interest to you.

Baby has going/gone. Traded her in for a 10 plate Metallic Magnesium with 19k on the clock.
Debs, that's sad in one respect as we know you have numerous fond memories of trips on her however I assume it was going to be an expensive repair. I still miss my black 07 GTR but I like my magnesium GTR also.
You may not agree, but long term, you've probably done the right thing.
Welcome to the magnesium club. :mfr_lol: Now standby for all the jokes about it being brown, I expect you to fight your corner.

Yes Steve it was going to be expensive. Both bearings on the drive shaft had gone and the gearing had also been damaged. The total cost of repair with Labour fixed at 6 hours was going to be £1200, plus it was also due a service in 500 miles. So that would have been another few hundred.
BK gave me a good deal AND they are transferring ALL my extras over to the newer one.
So they are keeping baby and going to get it repaired. Im getting the reg transferred over before I pick her up.. Will be in the next 2 weeks.
It was a hard decision to make. I did look at this 10 plate one when I took baby in.. I always thought it looked like a brown, but close up it does look really nice..
It has full Kawasaki Service and BK are going to give it a full service before I collect it.
Sounds like you did get a good deal then.
A bitter sweet moment then Debs, I'm sure that you will love the new bike, and that it'll make a great successor to your 'baby', at least you'll have all the accessories and farkels transferred so the new bike won't be a complete stranger ..........even though it is BROWN :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
You really are following in my steps! :-) Moto Gymkhana Queen next!
don't worry - in the right sunlight it looks red - and I still love the colour after 3 years!
Sad about her though......
Neil

Sorry to hear of your loss Debs but a replacement Gtr will soon feel like you have never parted.
If you ever bump into Asif on your travels, keep an eye on your wheels, he keeps eyeing up my black wheels asking if I'll swop for his silver ones....

Debs - Transferring all your bits onto new one is going to be a job. I take it Pete at BK isnt planning taking anyone else's GTR for a while !
You have the best colour and mines got 19k on it - come to think of it I've not been to the garage for a while...........

Metallic Mud then, eh Debs?
Brown, Magnesium, Metallic Mud, Mk3 Cortina,....... nah.

Im having concerns about my shaft drive (08 GTR),,excessive back lash in it , Ive only done 26000 on her. I do my own maintenance so need to take a look before next long trip.
