Title: Unknown Socket under the seat
Post by: Stephen.Stallebrass on November 13, 2013, 08:20:08 PM
Found what look like a socket under the seat. I'll figure it out when I fit the fuzeblock and alarm but I thought I'd post here first to see if anyone could shed any light.

They're wrapped in black tape so I can only assume they're not OEM?

They look to me like an accessory socket and perhaps a fuse. I've only had it a couple of weeks perhaps the previous owner may have wired it in.

I reckon this is the socket... I have something similarly sized and shaped on my GS for the Sat Nav, which connect to the accessory leads via a 2 pin white box connector?

By the way your electrics are taped up I'd say you have an alarm on the bike.
So it is probably just a fuse.

Accessory leads are located under /behind the rear seat latch, and under the front left fairing, they are usually two short cables and difficult to access.

Check your handbook for wiring colours

They are OEM and they are wire junctions. Places where several wires need to be joined into a single circuit; Kawasaki does it by using a blind connector and then taping over it. There are several of those connectors on the bike.

Thanks. By the way, I am only about 40 miles south of where the Red Sox hang out (Fenway park).

Awesome! I'd love to have been in Boston that night... first World Series title at Fenway Park since 1918 = MAD party. I only live 35 miles from the original Boston and there were celebrations in my house that night, I tell ye.

You're always welcome on this forum brother. And if you're ever actually over on this side of the pond there's always a cold beer waiting for you, a place to stay and a bike to play around on (a GTR or a GS)... unless you're a Yankees fan.

Well thank you, I appreciate that. Nope, not a Yankees fan- not much of a baseball fan at all really but it was a big deal around here for the final game of the series.

Beer: funny thing but I usually do not drink beer, more of a white wine and Scotch guy myself (usually not mixed together though). But lately I found something that I really, really like and for the first time in my life, actually purchased beer for myself- we always have some around for other. Newcastle Brown Ale- absolutely love the stuff!

I have an '08 C-14 (GTR here I guess) w/ 94K miles on it. Spent almost as much time farkling it.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

No problem, white wine it is. I also have a nice bottle of Johnie Walker Black too if you fancy. I'm happy to to say that a lot more Englishmen are drinking real ale these days, myself included, so if you like Newcastle Brown Ale you'll love some of the nectar we have to offer. What you would call micro-brews.

Brian , would you know whether the C14 (aka GTR) uses the canbus system for its wiring ?

.

Yes but only in very limited places such as between the KiPass ECU and the main ECU, as well as the ignition switch assembly. But it is not used all over the bike as it is on BMW's for example, so things like taillight accessories, aux. brake lights, directional lights (turn signals, whatever you call them) are all conventionally wired and do not use CANbus. Which is great news I think because as owners we can tap into and tinker with the bike's electrics directly without regard to CANbus. That said, I had to use the ground network of the CANbus system to reset KiPass when the activation switch sticks so that the bike can be started.
