Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how thick a new disc (front) is, and what's the minimum thickness
that's acceptable on a MoT?
Can't seem to find new Arashi Discs anywhere?
Thanks,
Nick.
Try HERE (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Brake-Disc-Rotors-Fit-KAWASAKI-08-12-Ninja-ZX10R-GTR-1400-ZZR-1400-New-/181208440600?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts_13&hash=item2a30dd5f18) for the discs
Not sure on MOT regs, sorry
£120 for the pair looks good, down to luck if you get hit for import duty and VAT
Richard
I paid it, seems as though the goods were down valued for import as it was £12 i think.
Still cheap if they only last a year. I will just buy some more..... No issues with mine as yet. :sweatdrop:

That's your next import item for your business Ant........................Get on the case for good quality VFM discs
I also have the Arashi Discs fitted
I have read somewhere that it depends on the bike.. Some are 4mm minimum where ours are stamped 4.5mm on the discs, but most go way past that as long as it passes the brake test.
Maybe they have to be thicker for a bigger engine.
Ant,
Thanks for the link, £120 a pair including delivery! Just mad! I'll keep these details for later...
I've just measured mine and they are between 4.8mm - 4.93mm, so well within any servicable limits...
Hope that helps
My Kawasaki dealer told me that they replace them below 4mm. Not sure if this is a Kawasaki limit or an MoT limit.
Crikey .. surprised no one has jumped in here with figures and all that !!! :mfr_lol:
I am sure that for an MOT there is no minimum thickness of disc required. Many workshops will tell you they need replacing at a certain point, usually 4mm, which of course is how they get their money from you because you don't know any better.
The test checks that the disc is not cracked or warped and they are securely mounted and that the wheel is free to rotate etc etc ... the rest of it, disc related is all to do with hoses, fluids and pads. Pretty sure I'm right on this one ! :police:
Yup, disc thickness per se is not part of the MoT test
OEM disks (front & rear) are 5mm thick with a marked "minimum" of 4.5mm.
I rode with mine down to 4.1mm and they never failed an MOT nor did they warp.
I replaced mine in the end because I was starting to get a judder when braking probably due to flex in the disk.
At rest they were not warped.
When you take the car for a mot , the discs are usually judged on condition , if they are badley scored or very rusty then that can be a fail , discs are like tyres they look ok until you put a new one next to it .,,,,,,,,,,,, :biker3:
