Q: What happened?
A: The server was hacked and the service provider immediately shutdown access to the server.
Q: Why wasn't it resolved earlier?
A: I was busy in Tunisia avoiding a suicide bomber that was intent on blowing up the hotel and all inside (yes, really)
Q: So what's changed?
A: We have a new server, the forum has been updated to the latest version, more security, and alot of things that didn't work in the past are now working e.g. Tapatalk!
Q: Will the site go off-line again
A: For the next week or so, yes. I'll still be doing changes, but mostly during the night
Hope you all enjoyed your stay in America :)
Asif, I would like to say a huge thanks for all the work you've put in since returning from Tunisia to get the forum back up and running. The American site is ok but it's not as good as ours. :whistling:
Asif
there is such a thing as Remote Access you know and it works from Tunisia :mfr_lol:

I was lucky if I got a WiFi connection!
asif, you are a steely eyed missle man
I sure felt homeless !
The rest of the crew should be back shortly. The DNS has finally propogated!
Well, I knew it couldn't last...

:mfr_lol: Thanks for letting us stay over at the US site
Anytime, brother, anytime.
I must add a huge thanks to Asif for all his work, and also for keeping me up to date by text, I don't think that many of us on here actually appreciate the 'behind the scenes' work that goes into making and keeping a good site up and running....Thanks again mate
And thanks also to our pals across the pond for allowing us to temporarily invade their board...thanks fellas
I've already suggested to Asif that it might be about time that we all put our hands into our respective pockets and make a contribution towards the cost and maintenance of this site, so Asif, if you would be so kind as to once again provide details of your Paypal account we can all chip in, its worth it when you consider the value of this site ..........BTW Asif hasn't asked me to make this request, in fact just the opposite is the case
A big Thank You from me to the UK team for
1) Sorting the problem
2) Lateral thinking forwarding us to Team USA
3) Team USA allowing (tolerating) a Brit invasion
Great team work
Cheers
Charlie

Yep, it was nice to visit, but coming home is better. Talk about two countries divided by a common language.
I assume C-14's come with a higher power engine, the wind resistance from the clear plastic barn doors they use as screens must be enourmous.
How do they stop the 'gas' leaking out of their fuel tanks ? I think a liquid like petrol is much more practical.

Yes indeed ... Well done Asif for all your hard work behind the scenes and getting the forum back to us ... Thank you.

But of course the engine's are more powerful and the wind resistance on the large shields is high (I think my MPG drops about 2mpg or so when said shield is fully activated and online.. The best gas mileage I've ever had is with the stock 08 shield.
The reason why the change took longer was down to 123-reg
For the techies, I run my own private nameservers. As they are hosted via 123-reg, they update the IP addresses linking the name servers.
Initially I did it using the online tool and then waited for the propogation to happen. What I was seeing was some DNS servers pick up the new change and others hanging onto the old IP address. A quick Google confirmed this was a known issue with 123-reg so I raised a support ticket and bam!, as soon as they'd resoved it last night, I could see the changes ripple across the net.
The other aspect I'm happy with is that all by backup scripts work, hence why we still have all the posts.
P.S. I did ask LW to look after the site whilst I was away :whistling:
Of course ! Why didin't I see that ? "Hanging on to the old IP address" and "the well known issue with the 123 - Reg" ....... :smartass: You are a clever chap Asif and we all thank you for it ! Once again, well done you.
LW looking after the forum ?? ....
I think you'll find he's too busy playing with his new toy... :innocent: .... and no it doesn't have 2 wheels but it hard, dark, has a variable length and will fit into most models !! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Thanks Asif, for this and all the other work you do for the forum.
As for donations, I'm up for it so post yer Paypal details and ye shall receive.

No its not.
Alan
All I did was try to keep things running, I pressed a few buttons, flicked a few switches, turned a few dials and then I saw a message on screen saying Lonewolf you've fuc*ed up again.
123-reg, private nameservers, propogation, DNS servers, hanging onto the old IP address, raised a support ticket, ripple across the net, backup scripts work.
Yeah I thought if you looked at those things it'd sort it. :whistling:
I for one have no f***ing what you've just said, and I really don't know what is involved, but I did miss this Forum! Very nice to see our Brothers-across-the-Pond 'lending' us their site as well.
Thanks again for all the behind the scene stuff...
Splendid. Good to be back online. Well done!
Donations all round I reckon? Pip pip!

There's another DOS attack against the service provider. You might have trouble accessing this site.
Fortunately this time, it's not an attack against the server hosting this site
Well you're all quite welcome to come back you know..

We normally don't use screens as 1) they let the wind through and 2) they let the rain through. We use 'shields instead.
Not so fast on the liquid fuel- It sounds to me like you have not heard T.Boone Pickins' plan on that topic yet....

Asif, you'd be well advised to ban that BDF character. He's the head Twit on our forum...

Aye, there is that...
Some of that is Kirby but I don't know if you are ready for him or not. A tragic story with a pretty happy ending....
