Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of fabbing up my own radiator guard, so would like to know the width x height. Also, are the aftermarket ones curved at all, or are they flat?
I'd like to 'make' a really simple option of some fine stainless steel mesh, perhaps 4 x 4 mm, or 5 x 5 mm size, with some spacers between same and radiator, held in place with wire/zip ties etc.
All/any comments/suggestions welcome,
Thanks, Nick.
It seems a lot of trouble to go to when you can buy them new for £50 and secondhand for about £25-£30.
i did this and purchased some ali mesh from bq , I just over cut the mesh and then folded the sides around the rad so the mesh would grip on, made some ties out of copper wire and it look superb IMO

Very good looking bit of fabbing there.
I'd like to do the same in stainless steel, stronger and no cleaning involved!

Did you have a go at making one?
Hi Lonewolf,
In the end I spent the 'monthly allowance' on a rear hugger and headlight protector from Skidmarx.
Looking at the price of stainless steel mesh () I think I'll keep my eyes open for a used one instead.
Fabbing one to size wouldn't be a problem, but getting the curvature right could be a p.i.t.a.
To be fair you can occasionally pick the Beowulf rad guards up for 1/2 price approx on ebay. Just create a search on ebay and save your search and let it notify you when new items are listed. That way you get an early warning system and can get in quick.
Fabricating your own is an option, and the curvature of the radiator wouldn't be very difficult to replicate,
If you are going to make your own then remember not to get mesh that is too fine as this may cause a reduction in airflow to the radiator and consequent overheating, also make sure that you secure the guard correctly, if it falls off it may cause unwanted damage.
Fitting a Radiator guard is a good idea as the replacement cost of a holed radiator will be substantial
As Lonewolf says check out fleabay for a used bargain, or buy the proper item from Beowulf who are a very competent and friendly company
