Hi
I went out on my local groups monthly ride - the trip this month was down to the Dorset coast.
In the morning on the way down we only had a couple of showers, although one was particularly heavy and we had to stop was most of couldn't see clearly enough. I had to return early from the ride early and the trip back was a challenge and half - coming back there was torrential rain and flooded roads for most of the trip back.
Funnily enough it was an enjoyable day :smiley: although I could have done without the adverse weather :angry: , which you could describe as being an advanced training session for adverse weather conditions but I was calling it something else at times.........
The good news is the torrential rain showed my HG suite is still waterproof, apart from where I forgot to fully do up the front zip. The bike didn't miss a beat and the PR3 tyres where excellent. The only really bad bit was I got a puncture in the front tyre just 6 miles from home :undecided:
Steve
Steve, what a bummer! I don't so much dislike riding in the rain it can be refreshing but when you get to the point where you cant see clearly then it takes the enjoyment away ever so slightly! :mfr_lol:
I wear glasses and no matter how good the pinlock system is on the helmet my glasses always steam up making it a testing experience as I found out on the way to catch a ferry with Rusty last year on the Isle of Skye.
As for getting a puncture six miles from home....that's just not cricket. Was it fixable at the roadside or did you have to get recovered?
Bad luck that, but a puncture in a PR3 surely not?. Have I mentioned Avon Storm 3D XM?

The puncture was fixable but given I had to stop on a dual carriageway with no harsholuder or hard strip plus I couldn't get the bike on the centre stand a very nice man in a orange van had to be called otherwise I would have fixed it myself. Fortunately it had stopped raining by then and the roadside assistance only took 10 minutes to arrive, as he was parked just up the road. :smiley:
Given the very adverse conditions I had been riding in on the way back I was so glad I had PR3's on, as I know from past experience just how good they are in torrential rain and with water running day the road surface etc - even managed a few overtakes
The reason we stopped on the way down was the shear volume of rain and the spray. Fortunately the Shark helmet I have doesn't tend to mist up, no pinlock system nor do my glasses. The only issue is unless the visor fully closed/sealed water tends to drip down the outside obscuring vision.

- have to say that you chaps running PR3s are reporting lots of punctures.

Not me, my PR3's have been on 18 months and not one puncture. Rear needs changing now but the front will probably last me another six months or so.
Out of interest Steve, what mileage have you done in that time with the PR3s ?

I am averaging 8-10k miles on a set of PR3's for the rear and the front will go a further 2-3k miles
Kind regards
Steve

OC not sure if your question was for me or Routemaster, (Steve) but my mileage is almost identical to the other Steve's. I've easily done 10k so far on the pair, the rear is still legal but with the wet weather arriving it makes sense now to change it as its starting to square off. The front is still perfectly serviceable and also like the other Steve I would suggest it will see me a few more thousand miles yet.
I've never really understood how someone can trash a PR3 in a few thousand miles!

The question was actually for you Steve (L.W) I had overlooked the fact that routemaster is also called Steve..well I am olde ya know :yes:
I was interested ~ as I had PR3s on my GTR and they covered about 4000 miles, they were still in fair condition when I changed the bike, however I don't think they would have lasted for 10,000 miles....no way :no:
Obviously tyre longevity is a much to do with the type of riding done, and of course the conditions under which the machine is ridden..i.e solo, two up, with or without luggage, and of course if a rider rides his GTR like he would a sports bike then that is going to be a factor also :smiley:
OC, understood and agreed, clearly though there must be something in the water only accessible to people called Steve as from the mileage achieved from these wonderful tyres Steve & I clearly have a very similar riding style.

S = slowly every where you go
T = tip toe around every corner
E = eventually get there
V = vertical on bends
E = economize on tyres and fuel
:whistling: :rolleyes: :mfr_lol:
Quite ironic that the two on here who give me the most shit for being a careful and sedate rider don't even own a GTR! I'm just saying, that's all! :whistling:
I don't think that describes my riding style at all :2guns: 100miles away and its a good job he is :wink: otherwise :2guns: :2guns: :censored: :death:
I tend to have a failry progressive riding style but its done in a smooth consistent style ie I don't tear the :asshole: out of the engine or the tyres like some :whistling:
Plus I do very little riding on motorways/dual carriageways etc which will tend to reduce the mileage the tyres are capable of - preferring to stick to the twisty roads :smiley: wherever possible or practical to do so.

Steve, from one Steve to another I'm with you on this one. I'm sure the two old codgers will say their comment was aimed at me rather than you, but considering their age they probably cant remember who the comment was initially intended for.
