Title: Rain Covers
Post by: Stephen.Stallebrass on October 16, 2013, 03:24:50 PM
I'll be glad when my XXL FD-Moto Rain Cover (http://bit.ly/19RFBUW) arrives... It's been pissing it down all day. Do any of you lot use a rain cover? I think I'm going to get that ACF50 treatment from www.allyearbiker.co.uk sooner rather than later.

Now Now BA .. we don't all live in Oxford with big garages .. in West Sussex I'm thinking of underfloor heating and tiles ............ a bit like a BM dealer !  :mfr_lol:

SS .. I used to have one MANY years ago for my old Honda CX500 .. the plastic pig ... when there were only the old style green canvas ones about, before I had the luxury of a garage, and I have to say it was very good ... need to tie them down underneath though but "yes" .. very good for keeping a lot of shite off the bike itself ...

I use my garage which hopefully will be leak free one day when I finally convince the wife it makes perfect sense to get a roofer in.

Gonna build one of them big metal sheds to store bikes, but I assume all you lucky peeps with garages aren't taking them with you. I was thinking more along the lines of when you're out riding? When I'm travelling I always take one, great security device, and when wild camping it covers all the shiny, reflective bits. Don't think I'll doing much wild camping with my GTR, unless I can find some Knobblies....

There's nothing better than seeing a GTR parked up outside a flash hotel alongside a Jag, Porsche or Roller.

I loved wild camping, done it all the way to Mongolia & Siberia and back on my GS, it's more than just saving dollar but it did involve a fair bit or off roading. A hostel or Travelodge is about as expensive as I go for a hotel when travelling - if I pay more than £25 a night I feel ripped off. Might do a bit of camping on the GTR when the weather picks up again in the new year. Trying out the sport tourer for a big USA trip in 2015...

I just bought one of these in XL because I had to get rid of my metal motorbike garage

Its a great cover and very light weight. I roll it up and put it in the pannier when Im out so its not lost or nicked.

I'm fortunate in that my Rev Shed is plenty big enough for a few bikes, this is one half of it

TBH the Rev Shed is one of the main reasons that I bought this place

Stay away from prestigecovers.
Uncooperative in the extreme.

I'm now using an Oxford but its not great, can't recommend them either.

There is an official Kawasaki lightweight and heavy weight cover purpose designed for the GTR. It even has an expandable section which I think you unzip for the top box if you have one fitted.

I had the heavyweight one when I had the first GTR but I sold it to someone on here, can't remember who though now.

Can you buy these online? I've had a good google and looked on Kawasaki's website but can't find what you're describing.

Cheers

Jon, last summer, Mrs DB bought me a cover for my birthday

One of these

She had tried on-line with no success. I believe Corby Kawasaki phoned round the country and even head office before locating it. Kawasaki website shows 'sold out' but may still be orderable.

Oh right!  Thanks very much for this! Don't quite know how I missed it.  How would you rate the cover?  Pleased with the quality and fit etc?

Quality is fine, PVC outer on a cotton base, zip out extension to cover a top box, and two holes at front to allow chain or D-lock to fit front wheel. Elasticated at rear wheel, but no centre strap to secure under the bike.
I only ever use mine as an indoor dust cover, but I guess an extra strap would keep it secure outdoors
