Title: Calsci screen question
Post by: shaggs147 on October 10, 2013, 09:05:13 PM
Well I went and bought a Calsci extra wide screen from ebay the other day as it was rude not to at the price I paid for it, and thought it would be a good screen to have on over the winter.
Although its the extra wide it doesn't look too bad on the bike, but I still think the way they shape the bottom of it looks strange. The only problem I have is that the seller didn't send the nylon washers/spacers for the centre fixing screws.
Can anyone tell me if the nylon washers are just that, a flat nylon washer, or is it more like a shaped spacer.

Cheers
Mark

Shouldn't they already be there on the old screen?

Thanks for the replies. There were no originals with the screen on the bike or the calsci. the calsci website refers to some nylon washers or spacers that you need to fit on the two middle holes as the holes in the calsci screen are larger than the heads of the middle fixing bolts, therefore if you don't fit the washers the middle bolts do nothing to support it. I was wondering if anyone could recall what they look like.

How's the Calsci wide screen working out for you? Thinking of getting one myself.

To be honest Stephen, I've not been out on it yet  :embarrassed: I'll get out on it sometime before the weekend and let you know.
I was surprised how it looked on the bike though, better than I thought it would - still in proportion to the rest of the bike. I think it'll give a good bit of protection from the winter weather, but will have to see how it feels on the motorway. I used to find that the original screen made the front end feel a little light at speed when fully up, and caused a bit of a vacuum behind it. This made it feel like you had to physically push yourself back all the time which was a bit tiring on the arms. Hopefully this screen won't do that due to the way its been cut off at the bottom and the larger hole to allow some air through. I'll report back asap.

Well I took the bike out for a short blast this evening, and was very impressed with the calsci screen. Fully down the wind blast hits me on the top of the shoulders and head, with no buffeting, although the weather was quite kind anyway. No wind blast on the forearms at all due to it being the wide version. With the screen fully up I was in a quiet bubble, bliss! Fully up the screen was just below eye level, so wasn't a distraction and let just enough air through to stop the vacuum behind the screen. On long journeys I use earbuds with my sena bluetooth and used to have to crank it up pretty much all the way to hear the music at motorway speeds, not good for the hearing I know! With the calsci fully up I had the sena up about half way at most, the screen really is that good! Hopefully I'll be going out for a good bit longer tomorrow, to give the screen a full work out, but can't praise it highly enough so far. Hope that helps you a little Stephen.

Glad I could help, will try to sort some pics out later. I know it probably won't work for everyone, but it certainly seems to be good for me, and with the adjustable screen I would imagine most people could find the right position to suit. Almost looking forward to a bit of rain now to see how it performs!

Just wondering. With the extra wide screen how tall is it ?  I am 6-2 and I don't know which to order. I just want something for the winter months.

I have the Laminar Lip fitted to the top of my screen.

You can also get a rear rack from same site

I bought the extra wide and could not get my head around the brake and clutch levers hitting the screen so I returned it. Heroblobs simple exchanged it no hassle

I also had a wide Calsci screen and didn't like it.. Went back to the existing tall kwak screen with Laminar Lip
