Imagine a 2011 plate Magnesium GTR with less than 19k (gentle) miles on the clock, two owners from new, full service history with Kawasaki, extended Kawasaki warranty until 2015 which would be transferable to a new owner, very good all round condition, safety recall on rear brake pedal recently completed, new exhaust fitted recently under warranty due to small amount of flaking paint, new preload shock adjuster recently fitted due to seizing, rear TPS replaced recently due to gradual battery failure, so basically all the normal teething problems most of us have experienced at one time or another.
The bike has a headlight protective shield, wind deflectors on the fairing, wind deflectors by the mirrors, fender extender, R&G front crash bungs, R&G radiator guard, aftermarket seat which is very comfortable, black hugger, 47ltr Kawasaki top box with back rest, genuine Kawasaki pannier bags & of course the well favoured Michelin PR3's which still have plenty of life in them.
I'm exploring other options and would welcome any suggestions as to what might be a realistic value of my GTR as described above for either a cash or dealer sale.
Ta, in advance.
What are you up to Mr Wolf?
BMW?

Everyone weakens eventually...
Having recently had mine valued I would say dealer/px value about 7.5k, private 8.4k, obviously with dealer you get more leverage and if its a BM you're after they tend to give you more as you're likely to spend more....hope that helps
Have you checked out the Kawasaki Versys 1000 Steve :mfr_lol:

I have the ideal bike for you Steve as we're almost certainly* selling our K8 Hayabusa. It's been through timing lights at the end of a runway at 207mph** so that ought to be enough to satisfy anyone's mid-life crisis.
* I want another long-distance road bike and need to fund it somehow. The Hayabusa generally sits in the garage as it's not the most comfortable for LD but I do really like it...
** After I had work done on it but with someone lighter than me who knew what he was doing riding it, not me; I only got it up to 187.

We did fit panniers to an earlier Hayabusa we used to tour on. The fact I had 'Wide Load' stickers made which I then put on the panniers gives you some idea of how it looked.

Steve, I know a couple of people who can highly recommend a machine from the same stable as your present bike, unfortunately they dont do them in green,(Yet) A 1000cc four cylinder engine, as quick as you would ever want to go (not very) :whistling: , good brakes (ABS), Traction control, with low power mode for wet conditions. Mega comfy, great on fuel, and a lot lighter than your present bike. I'm sure that your local dealer could fix you up with a test ride. You never know you may fall in love with it and buy one. I presume you are referring to me there Steve, we do plan to meet at the Bridge, however the weather here this morning is extremely cold (minus summat or other) and the road in and out of my village is badly frozen, more like a skating rink that a road some might say :mfr_lol: So I will be reviewing road conditions in the next hour or so

Well ... talking or RT 1200ds ... I think at work the "old" policy of ditching bikes at a certain mileage has been binned, because as you know according to the PM "we are all in it together" .. so the bikes are being kept until they break ( unless anyone here in The Met knows otherwise ) ... I get to work the other night and one of the bikes which I like to ride is back from workshops ... been gone a few days ... new front tyre, pads all round and then something like "engine strip down and replaced cambelt tensioners ? " or something like that ... now bearing in mind this is a 57 plate job bike with 64000 miles on it and has only ever been thrashed to an inch of its life for its entire life it felt like a new bike and rode so well just like it always has done .... so the point of me telling you all this ? The RT is not my bike of choice and I wouldn't buy one but I have to say it ticks a great many boxes ( including as Dave says "great screen" ) and as those of you in the job know it's not always the bike itself that counts .

As a member of the public I have to say that you do see a lot of marked 2 & 4 wheeled BMW product out on the streets are Chief Constables big BMW men ?
I think it all comes down to procurement ... how much or rather how many bikes, cars and X5's do you get for your money ? On top of that there is the question of endurance and longevity.... Before I moved to "The Met" I was in a county force using a mix of Mercedes 320 (?) Estates and X5's on a unit ..... The Mercs were for ever in workshops with various problems, both fleets being used 24/7 and the BMs just went on and on. I have to say I would never buy a Mercedes but of course that's just me !

My dear "dithering doderers"
I'm having trouble "not rising" to the bate  it's really hard resist old folk... bless them!!
I do remember that Sunday we met at the bridge and  I did only last approx 1hr 30 minutes due to a toothache which was also giving me "the mother of all headaches" but I had already rode 90 miles to get to the bridge and had the 90 miles plus.. what we had rode the opposite way to my way home :whistling: so that was the reason for my departure, but must congratulate the "dithering doderers" because I was on my ZZR  and I was expecting my fuel economy light to be permanently on, but must give credit where credit is due  keeping up with the "dithering doderers" my economy light didn't stay on permanently :nono: so lets be fair  it just flickered on and off all the time :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Dave, my first wife  used to come out with that old chestnut," I've got headache". Was the REAL reason that you were being Buzzed by a 300 cc scooter :scooter:, Admitted the scooter had an ex racer on it, but he reckoned that you were getting under his feet, Oh by the way, he is also in the Old codgers motorcycle club, he is 72, but just like me, and my buddy Rog "The lakeland flyer", we are always up for a bit of fun, and a ride out, you really should join us some time Dave. :whistling:
"Lakeland Flyer" I like that :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Dave is always welcome to join in the fun, as is anyone else who fancies a ride out, but its worth mentioning that 200-300 a day mile rides aren't unusual, with hardly an 'A'road in sight.

Dave, calm down man :sweatdrop: yer heart will give in. I think we should  and make up. :mfr_lol:. Scooter boy :scooter: pisses me off sometimes as well, but it's just a bit of fun and banter. Steve.. a lot can be said on who we ride with  I also only ride with mates who don't feel as if they need to prove something  there is a devil inside us all and although ourselves are in control of our own bikes we don't need riders that think their better than you or better than their bikes :sweatdrop: the scooter man  was a good rider he managed to keep up with me on the twisties, but what pissed me of was he was riding to close to me on twisties and in built up areas leaving nothing for error  if I needed to brake suddenly like I did for that "PESKY SHEEP" and it was just coming out of a bend he would have slammed into the back me :hammer: also due to the fact he over took me on my inside  and I would have decided at the spare of the moment to swerve left around the car that stopped to turn right he would have had me of my bike :hammer: hence "never under take" but to be fair.. I must point out that I had both Rog and Geoff in my sights and they kept a good distance between each other at all times and rode in a sensible yet spirited manner :sweatdrop:
Ah yes the original thread, Steve, I estimate the value of your bike at this time of year in a private sale ( although I doubt very much that unless you got very lucky you would sell it private) as maybe £6.5 or in a PX deal for something very expensive, with no discount off the new bike as maybe a grand more than that. Are you ever going to tell us what ideas you have running around your brain?. feel free to keep us all interested, as this thread, apart from The two old codgers, who are so old that they can hardly stand up, and a bloke from Liverpool, who spends half his life in a rage :taz: has turned into what can only be descibed as a motorway journey :sleep1:  :feedback:
I do believe Steve's desire lie in the Bayerische Motoren Werke area....
If anyone came round my gaff and offered me £6.5k for mine I'd kick their arse up to £7.5k. They may be a niche bike but show me a dealer with 2010/2011 bikes priced up as low as the figures here say even allowing for the time of year.
If I was looking now I'd rip the arm off the seller with an '11 bike for £6.5k!
Massive difference between pre and post Traction control and if I was after one now and wanted a cheaper but equally capable bike I'd buy a minter, low mileage A8 but as luck has it I've got the CAF.
With K not significantly upgrading the model next year lets hope the depreciation is limited and not the freefall it was when TC was introduced.
For me the bike is a financial necessity for the job so the price is pretty key. It's a shame I don't get the pleasure I used to as I HAVE to ride.
Not complaining too much though!

I'm not sure what mileage Steve's GTR as done to date  but it's must be near or past the 20,000 miles mark, which means it's near due the major service which involves the shims at a cost of approx £600 plus! also it's a bad time to sell private  have also seen 11 plates and 12 plates with under 5,000 miles selling for around £8,250 so although I rather not agree with the "the old boy" I would also say private sale for a 11 plate with approx 20,000 miles on clock in good condition soon due the major service would be £6,500 to £6,750 max! and trade in on new bike with a value of £13,000 plus "without discounts" would expect a p/x value of approx £7,250 max

Yes, it's a fact that when we pay big money for our bikes, when the time comes to move on, we have to swallow a big pill  . This and most other bike forums are full of people who think their bikes are worth more that they really are. We have had members on here (Keith) getting next to no money for utterly mint bikes that are just like brand new, In the real world It's a buyers market, and it always will be. So enjoy your bikes whilst you own them, and just accept the fact that they are never worth what you imagine them to be.
You know Geoff, I had a similar conversation today with a fellow BMW owner...
No matter how much it costs, it's what it's worth to you. At the time.
Ah.... Whinny pops in on page 7 with the really only useful comment I have read for a while !

I must agree. Also what most people fail to add into the equation is, how much have you enjoyed doing your 20,000 (or whatever) miles?. In pounds shillings and pence terms, you just cannot put a value on the fun you have had.

Yep, and the bloke who started it all is still saying nowt.
Ok, I'm here, I was just letting you all get on with it. Hyperthetically if I were to be selling the bike I'd be looking at £7500, I simply wouldn't sell it for anything less at the moment. The bikes done 19200k which is nothing really.
If I were to sell or PX, the only two bikes which interest me at the moment is something called a GS and a K16.
I'd never dream of selling at this time of the year, early Spring approx would be much better.
Anyway it's been an interesting thread to say the least. As for this scooter rider, I agree with Dave, I would not appreciate having someone riding so close to me that they were a liability.
There are some excellent riders on here, Winston, Rusty, Rossendale Rider, Dave, Asif, :whistling: etc.

I'm always considerate when riding in a group
The value of our 'pride and Joy' depends on a number of factors, mileage condition, etc etc, every dealer has to also take into account what his current stock profile is i.e if he already has a GTR or two in stock he most likely won't be too bothered about adding a third one, hence his P/X offer may be reduced accordingly, additionally every dealer has bills to pay, profits to make, repairs and servicing to conduct on P/Xd machines before he can re-offer them for sale, plus most purchasers of used machines expect a warranty to be included with a machine that's offered for sale.
Dealers offer a P/X price which often (should) includes an "over allowance" that is to say he offers more for the P/X than it is actually worth in terms of residual/realisable value, ergo he may offer you £7,500.00 for your machine which in fact probably has a residual value of say £6,800.00 therefore the £700.00 "over allowance" is taken out of any profit within the machine you are proposing to buy. This enables the dealer to outbid other dealers who may be competing to sell you a new or used machine from their stock, and this is the reason why some dealers are apparently able to offer you more for your miachine than the guy down the road.
Also consider, some dealers, with a franchise, do not like to have non-franchised stock on their showroom floor, BMW dealers, and other franchised dealers, are notorious for only wanting another BMW in P/X, as such they will get a 'trade bid' on your P/X if its not one of their franchised marques, before they do a deal with you, what happens then is that your P/Xd machine will go straight out of the dealership to a trader and not remain in his stock of used machines.
Any dealers stock, be it cars or bikes, must be valued at a realisable figure, its basic accounting/auditing practice in order to show a true valuation of assets within a balance sheet.
Sorry for the extended explanation, but I have managed, as a General Manager, dealerships, so I do know what I'm talking about, and its often useful to understand that not all dealers are trying to rip off existing and potential customers alike, they simply want to make a living, granted some are greedy bast*rds and others aren't, as individuals they have different overheads and different profit aspirations........we are all different...... and dealers are too.
Prices for privately sold and prices for a machine sold from a dealership will always be different to those offered through a dealership
Maybe this will help to clarify why there is often a disparity in P/Xing your bikes

Each to their own. I've always thought that all the K-series BMWs should actually have a Samsonite badge.
While the K1 was very different it managed to do it in a very clinical, sensible way, and was dull to ride.
The GSs are at least different and the Boxers have their charm, but the Ks never appealed to me.
Honda have the same problem pretty much across their range,...... blandness.

As a forma fully paid up member of the addictive career path that goes by the general description "Motor Trade" I could not of put it better. :goodpost:
There are also other factors to consider too, if you are financing the ballance you may get a better deal due to the fact the dealer will make money off the finance company from the deal depending on the ammount of APR they can get away with. The dealer will get a kick back % depending on their base rate% from the finance company. If you would also decide to have GAP insurance the dealer will be rubbing his hands and counting the profit. The dealer will always do the deal with you but will adjust the figures to accomodate for VAT, in short you will get the same deal but the figures will be altered to suit the dealer books. I used to make more money through finance deals than actual profit in some of the bikes, i would cringe when cash was mentioned and would give minimal discount for cash sales. Unfortunately thats business today.
In short you will get a better px through finance but in the long run you will pay more, you pay's your money and takes your choice.

Yep, absolutely correct, your point about finance further demonstrates that buying a bike, or car for that matter, from a dealer is not as straight forward as some seem to think it might be......I won't bore everyone on here with dealer stocking costs...legal representation requirements, trades description laws..... it just goes on and on, and on and...................
Just bought a new (to me) car and the dealer simply sat at the computer after the p/x had been struck and stated what the monthly payment would be.
PMSL when his face dropped when I said I was paying the remainder in cash!
Never assume my son, never assume!
(Oh and when it arrived - was at another branch of the dealership - it was higher spec than they had realised too, cruise control auto lights/wipers, leather....ROFPMSL!!)
What did you get then?
BMW ???? ...cummon Chris stop taking the you know what :mfr_lol:
Spot on Winnie - thats how to do it, get a really good finance PX then when the deal is verbally done drop it out that you are settling in cash. Seems your dealer honoured the deal which is good for you, i myself would have said that was for a finance PX deal only not a cash deal, which does go to show how much better a finance deal can be although not in the long term. The sales exec should have asked which payment method you were opting for in the first instance, this was always my first question before getting into the nitty gritty.
I have to ask the question ( although surprised if you say yes ) ASTLE ??
To be fair whatever he's bought it'll be an improvement on his Focus.

Hopefully the bitch is filling up with pups and should be due to whelp Xmas, so should be February if all works out properly
Plenty of lovely abandoned labs out there at various rescue centres. Just think, you could have one, (or maybe two) by the end of the week! :whistling: Only one of my dogs, a GSD, I got as a pup, all my Springers and the Cocker are rescue dogs and I would always go that route in the future. God can you imagine a Springer pup!!!! :mfr_lol:

Rescue dogs, !!!! they are all the same  they will all have yer bloody hand off :mfr_lol:
Geoff, what twaddle. :nono: .
I'm with the Wolf on this one. Had two rescue dogs, both been a joy to have as part of the family.
I'd rather give a dog a second chance, which has possibly had a poor start to life, than to give some scrote a wad of cash for a dubious pedigree which has been brought up in the kitchen.
Most of them aren't interested in the dogs health or the pups, They just want the cash to bump up their dole cheque. I think you should have to apply for a special license before you're allowed to breed dogs. Just read that back and blimey..... sounds like a right ol rant :mfr_lol:
I also think that you should have to pass some sort of aptitude test before you are even able to own a dog & you should then have to prove that you can afford to keep one and then the dog must be insured and it must be neutered and it must be licenced, other than that, you can do what you want. (I'd hate to come across as a dictator! :mfr_lol:
Thanks for all the 'advice' boys
Reputable breeder, supplies working dogs to estates and is not 'bumping up her dole cheque'

Chris, you know us, always happy to help. Any particular colour you're hoping for?
I wonder what the next topic will be on this thread, it seems to be going off in many directions.

Pups due Christmas Eve! Jilly wants a yellow, my preference would be fox red, but they are few and far and besides, I know who'll win!!
My Yellow bitch Labrador (Kite) was eleven years old yesterday, she's the best dog I've ever had, without a single bad bone in her body, she hardly ever even barks, and is sooooo gentle.
She was worked by me for 7 seasons so she's still exceptionally fit, and lives in her own well insulated kennel outside (I can hear L.W groaning now) and is the happiest dog I know, her tail never stops wagging
A dogs place is by the fireside. If I wanted to keep a pet outside I'd buy a goat!
LOL @ that video on page 8
